Nova's Story

Nova is one of the lucky dogs participating in our new program Enduring Service! This program pairs a shelter dog with inmates at the Travis State Jail to complete a 12-week basic training course. Upon graduation, they will receive a course certificate of completion and a goodie bag to go home with their adoptive family.Nova is not currently onsite at the shelter but to learn more about her and how to adopt, select the “Get Started” button to hear from a staff member! Nova is a wonderful mature dog with a loving heart and a gentle spirit. She's both fun and easy to train, making her a great companion for a variety of homes. Nova enjoys staying active, she loves to run and her favorite game is chase but she also has a calm, relaxed side and carries herself with a ladylike temperament. She's an excellent walking or jogging partner and walks politely by your side. Nova is smart, loyal, and well-trained. She has mastered basic obedience commands using both voice and hand signals, including sit, stay, down, heel, and more. She is kennel trained and comfortable resting in her crate both during the day and overnight. She even knows a few fun tricks like roll over! Nova is friendly and enjoys meeting new people and dogs. She may bark to alert you to strangers or unfamiliar situations, but she warms up with time and proper introductions. Once she feels comfortable, her sweet and affectionate personality truly shines. Nova is a loving, loyal girl who is ready to find her forever family-someone who will appreciate her intelligence, energy, and big heart.
