Nova's Story

Nova is a 1-year-old Labradoodle mix with a gentle heart and so much potential. When she first arrived with her sister, Jessi, she had very little socialization and wasn't sure how to navigate the world around her. Because of that, Nova lacks confidence and needs a patient family willing to help her discover what it means to simply be a dog.

Nova is the kind of dog who chooses her people carefully. She may be shy at first and needs slow introductions to new people and situations, but once she trusts you, she forms a deep bond and absolutely thrives on your attention and affection. One of her favorite places to be is right at your feet, close enough to know you're there.

Despite her fears, Nova has never shown aggression. Her response to uncertainty is simply to retreat and observe. With stability, routine, and understanding, she continues to make progress and show her sweet personality.
Nova does well with other dogs and has also done well with cats. A confident canine companion could even help show her that the world isn't such a scary place.

Nova is looking for a family that understands that trust takes time and that the greatest rewards often come from helping a shy dog blossom. If you're willing to move at her pace, you'll gain a loyal companion who will cherish every bit of love you give her.

We are currently accepting applications for Nova. She is still awaiting her final vaccines and spay surgery, but we're hoping to find her perfect match now so that when she's ready, her forever family will be waiting to welcome her home.
Could you be the person Nova has been waiting for?

Cheboygan County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
We do not hold available/adoptable animals as we are a first come first serve facility. However, we do place animals in homes that are best fitting for that animal. If you rent, please supply your landlord's information as we cannot adopt until we speak to them directly or have something in writing approving the animal(s) allowed. If you are interested in us matching you with a forever pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire below for us to know a little bit more about you! Please keep in mind we do require vet checks and meet and greets with other dogs in the home. It normally takes 30 + minutes for the adoption process. Please be patient and ask questions! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12nUph8lBvpdwzrAo8-zrLyiyQV3NQ259N6VMrLq7veo/edit
