Nova's Story

Nova was surrendered by a young couple who admittedly didn't research the breed. They didn't have the space or the resources to take care of a giant breed and they wanted her to have a life where she could have what she needed. They trimmed her hair short because it was matted which has now grown back to a beautiful, thick curly coat.

Nova LOVES meeting people and enjoys being showered with pets and attention. She's all about the belly rubs and likes to be close to her people, putting her head on you or sitting on your foot- such a Pyrenees trait! Nova likes to play with other dogs and can also keep herself busy with toys. She's a calm puppy and hasn't chewed up anything she shouldn't chew on- at least not yet. In her young life, Nova has always had other dogs to keep her company so we're looking for a home for her that has at least one male canine companion. Nova lived with a cat in her former home and cohabitates with cats in her foster home. She is good with kids, is potty trained, and leash trained. And isn't she just beautiful?!

We think (and so does the vet)
Nova was kept in a crate for long periods before we rescued her. She had difficultly getting up from lying down and had some muscle loss/weakness in her back legs. She's being treated with an anti-inflammatory and we already see a lot of improvement in her strength. Just shy of 6 months old, Nova has long legs and huge paws and surpassing 60 lbs already, she's going to be 100 lbs plus when fully grown.

Nova is up to date on core vaccines, microchipped, and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. She will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with adopter promising to spay at a later date and must provide vet records at that time.
Nova is being fostered near Kansas City

Adoption Requirements
*A secure and visible fence
*A home visit
*A vet reference with at least a two year vet history

Adopters can be located in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and Arkansas. We are able to help transport to those states.

Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri's Adoption Policy
Applicants must have a secure and visible fence and children in the home must be 12 or older. In order for your application to be approved, you must also pass a home check and a vet check which includes having at least a two year vet history. All of our dogs can be adopted in Missouri and surrounding states that we are currently able to transport to: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arkansas. Our adoption fees are: Dogs 1 year and older: $450 Puppies under 1 year: $500 All of our rescued pyrs are fully vetted prior to adoption, spayed/neutered (dogs over 6 months), microchipped, up-to-date on immunizations, and up-to-date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our available dogs you are interested in adopting. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific dog, nor does it obligate you to adopt. Once we have received your application and determined if you are a good match for the dog you are interested in, a representative from our adoption team will contact you to go over our process in its entirety. From there, we will put you in contact with the foster parent, so you may set up a meet and greet with the dog, in person when possible or video chat if that isn't an option. Before adopting, keep in mind that many of our dogs prior to being rescued and placed in foster homes have never lived inside a home. Some dogs may never have been walked on a leash, socialized, house-trained or spent time with other animals. Our fosters work with these dogs on many of these issues to prepare them for their furever homes, but these dogs will still need patience and understanding as they learn to adapt when they come to you. Rescued dogs need adopters who will not give up on them if they have accidents in the house, pull on the leash, dig in the yard, or act nervous or frightened. An adoption will be successful only if the adopter is committed to seeing the dog through the adjustment period. The rewards are the unconditional love and loyalty of a wonderful companion, and the satisfaction of knowing you have given a rescued dog a better life. If at any time after adoption, you decide you cannot keep the pet for any reason, the dog must be returned to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri.
