Nova's Story

Nova radiates pure joy wherever she goes. This sweet, gentle girl is the kind of puppy who makes everyone she meets smile. Nova loves unconditionally, greets the world with a wagging tail (watch your coffee table!), and truly believes that personal space is optional — especially when cuddles are involved.

Nova is excellent with other dogs, cats, strangers, and kids, including teens. While she hasn’t been off-leash with small children yet, she has met many on leash and has been wonderful. She greets new people by wiggling right up, sitting politely at their feet, and asking for affection.

She is fully house trained and crate trained, happily sleeping in her crate at night and settling well during the day with a Kong or bully stick in a holder. Inside the house, Nova is content to play with her toys or her foster brother, enjoy a good chew, or curl up on her bed for a long snooze. Outside, she loves playing ball, romping in the yard, chasing leaves, and zooming through the snow.

Nova walks beautifully on a transitional slip lead, is currently learning long-line skills, and has excellent recall. She is not reactive and enjoys meeting both dogs and people on her walks. Her energy level is medium — she currently enjoys three daily walks (20–25 minutes in the morning and evening, plus a shorter one after work) and is perfectly content afterward. As her body continues to heal, she may enjoy longer adventures, but she’s not a high-energy pup.

Nova has had FHO surgery on her back right leg and hip and is still healing, getting stronger every day. She handles vet visits like a champ and soaks up all the extra treats and love from staff.

This smart girl already knows Sit, Down, Gentle, Look, Come, Leave It, and Drop It, with “Sit,” “Gentle,” and “Drop It” being rock solid. She’s continuing to work on basic puppy skills, leash manners, recall, and “place.” Nova loves to play — especially tug, fetch, hide-and-find, and she’s even learning catch! She also enjoys using her nose, so scent work could be a fantastic future activity for her.

Nova does get very excited during play and can be a bit forward with other dogs, so she does best when given a toy to hold during playtime. She listens well to corrections and just needs help staying focused when her joy takes over.

If you’re looking for a loyal shadow, a joyful companion, and a puppy who will love you with her whole heart, Nova is truly something special. Her future family will be incredibly lucky to call her theirs.
