Hey Folks! Nova here. Foster ma has been telling me more about all the special people that donated and have cared about my journey so far. Thank you!!! She also tells me that with my 8 week X-ray booked for my second TPLO, it is time to start looking for my forever family.
I’m a big quirky 3 year old goober, I mean girl and at 100lbs, everything that I do is amplified. This can mean that many people misunderstand me and can be scared or … if I can say…. a bit judgmental! My forever family should have breed experience and knowledge in large dog behaviour so they are the confident pack leader that I need to be my best. I thrive with rules, structure and boundaries.
Because I’ve been in rehab from my two TPLO surgeries for all of my time in foster, I haven’t been cleared to socialize with other dogs so I’ll need lot of patience and work on socialization in the future. On my walks I keep my distance and can walk past other well-behaved dogs without issue. Sometimes if they try to initiate a meeting from a far, I’ll be stubborn and stop and wiggle, chirp/bark and get excited (sometimes too excited) but foster mom reminds me that my recovery comes first. While this is not in an aggressive manner, I am a big girl and others aren’t sure what to think. I am very food motivated and most of the time a piece of kibble reminds me to continue on. My hood has lots of geese and even some squirrels and a raccoon. I’m curious about them but know we have places to be and have no issues moving on to our next sniff spot. I do get very excited and reactive when it comes to skateboards, especially if they are noisy. I’m supposed to sit to the side and wait but sometimes I can’t help my excitement so I’m told I need to keep working on that. I’m also unsure of some people, especially if they are acting erratically, and may bark at them but I look to foster mom to steer me to a safe space. Overall, I guess I’m pretty easily excitable and distractible since the world is full of crazy surprises but I have a desire to please my foster mom and she’s helping me work on this. I’ve made such improvements and have the potential to continue to build on those.
Even though I’m a clumsy giant I’m told that I am a pretty good girl in the house. I like to do my business in grass so I let my foster mom know when I to go out. I am quiet for most part but will bark if anyone comes to the door or startles me, and maybe to get youd attention. I can become nervous and protective in small spaces so rather than a crate I spend bed time in my comfy bed with my favourite blanket in an exercise pen. I’m happy to curl up here to wait for foster mom to come home from whatever it she does without me. It’s also where I get my meals so… big fan!
Rescue family says I’m super smart and they are right when they say I just want to please. I’m learning lots of new tricks. Sometimes I get frustrated and over excited while I’m figuring out what foster mom is asking me to do and will get grumbly/chatty - I don’t hide my feelings! She says these mental games are good for me and they especially were while my movement was super limited! When I get overexcited, she asks me to lie down to calm down before we continue on with whoever we were doing.
I do have some food allergies but have found a number of readily available dog foods that keep my tummy and skin happy. I love food so much I have no issue with the kibble being used as rewards for being a good girl throughout the day. Because of my bionic knees I am going to need to be reminded to not be too crazy with my zoomies. I have been receiving injections at home to help my body heal from my surgeries and it is recommended that I continue to receive this monthly as it is also preventative against future joint issues. I am a good girl and easy to administer the shot to at home. I haven’t found any supplements yet that don’t upset my tummy but once we find a good match, I’ll be happy to take those as well if it keeps me healthy!
My ideal home will be a calm one with breed/large dog experience, no children cats or other dogs with a yard I can lounge in.
