Nonna's Story

Ciao, bella! My name is Nonna, and just like a real Italian grandma, I’m full of love, warmth, and excellent lounging skills. I made my way here all the way from Mexico after my family left me behind when I got older. Luckily, kind humans from The Cantu Foundation stepped in and gave me a second chance to show everyone just how much love I still have to give. Now I’m ready to find a forever family who won’t ever give up on me again.

I’m a brindle Shar Pei mix, about 42 pounds of pure sweetness, and around 8 years old. I’m spayed, fully vaccinated, fully potty trained (yes, I’m a classy lady), and I’ve quickly learned that home life, cozy naps, long walks, and tasty treats, is pretty amazing.

The Nonna highlights

-Loving companion: I am extremely affectionate and very cuddly. If you sit down, I will gladly volunteer as your personal weighted blanket and emotional support expert.

-Walk enthusiast: Long walks are one of my favorite things in the world. I’m doing well with leash training and improving every day with my gentle leader- practice makes paw-fect!

-Perfect house guest: When left home alone, I mostly nap or quietly entertain myself. Independent queen energy.

-Moderate energy balance: I enjoy playtime and exploring, but I also take lounging very seriously. Think “let’s go for a walk” followed by “let’s nap like professionals.”

-People lover: I’m extremely social and friendly with humans. Meeting new people is exciting, and I’m always ready to make new friends.

-Car ride companion: I ride well in the car and am happy to join you on adventures near or far.

Things I’m still working on

-Polite dog introductions: I can be dog friendly, but I do best with slow, proper introductions.

-Mood Ring: I can feel a little unsure sometimes, but I settle quickly and do very well when given structure, love, and routine.

-New experiences: My comfort level with cats and kids is still unknown, so thoughtful introductions and guidance will help me succeed.

My dream home

I’d love a home with either a yard or humans who are excited to take me on daily walks- and maybe even hiking adventures (I have a feeling I’d be very good at stopping to admire the scenery). I thrive with an active family that also appreciates a good lounge session afterward. I’d do best with adopters who understand that I may need slow introductions with other dogs and will help set me up for success.

If you’re searching for a loving, playful, and sweet companion who will greet you like you’re the best thing that ever happened every single day, you can fill out an application to adopt me at https://www.thecantufoundation.org and my adoption fee is $250 I’ve already learned that life can change for the better, and now I’m ready for my forever chapter, preferably one filled with long walks, soft beds, and plenty of treats.

Could you be my family?
