Nina's Story
Meet Nina!

Nina is a beautiful long-haired Dachshund mix who is about 2 years old and weighs just 14 pounds. She was owner surrendered in deep South Texas for reasons we’ll never know, but thankfully a kind street rescuer stepped in to make sure she was safe.

Nina is a very special little dog who is looking for a very specific kind of home. She can be slow to trust new people, and we believe someone may not have treated her kindly in the past. It took me about 48 hours to earn her trust, but once I did, she completely stole my heart. She is incredibly loving, affectionate, and devoted to the people she trusts.

Because of her past, Nina needs a dog-savvy, adult-only home with someone who understands that trust is earned, not rushed. If she feels frightened or threatened, she may nip, so her new family must be patient, gentle, and willing to let her settle in at her own pace.

Her ideal home would be with a retired person or someone who has a quieter lifestyle and can give her the attention, patience, and security she needs to continue building her confidence. Once Nina knows she’s safe, she is an incredibly loyal companion who simply wants to be close to the person she loves.

Dogs like Nina are worth the extra patience. Watching her learn that people can be kind has been one of the most rewarding experiences, and I know the right person will absolutely adore her. She deserves a home where she’ll never have to question whether she’s safe again.

Nina is currently located outside of San Antonio, Texas, but we do transport to approved adopters. Be sure to check our transport schedule—we may already be planning a trip near you.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion with plenty of character and a heart full of love, Nina just might be your perfect match.

She is Chagas and Heartworm negative.

Think Nina could be the one for you?
