Nina's Story

Meet Nina

Nina is an approximately 2.5-year-old mixed breed with a sleek all-black coat and the kind of soulful eyes that feel like they see everything—and love you anyway.

She came into our care as a Sumpter stray, and while she was incredibly scared when she first arrived, each day we get to know her, she lets us in a little more—and completely steals our hearts in the process.

Nina is a sensitive, gentle soul who will need a family willing to move at her pace. New environments and experiences can feel overwhelming for her right now (car rides, for example, are still a little too scary), so she’s looking for a home that understands the beauty of going slow and building trust over time.

And once you see who she is underneath that initial nervousness? It’s something really special.

One of Nina’s most incredible qualities is her nurturing nature with other dogs. With pups her size, she’s a playful and very expressive communicator—she may be a little vocal during play, but it’s all part of her charm and comfort in the moment.

With smaller or more nervous dogs, though, Nina becomes something else entirely.

She has shown us the most beautiful protective and nurturing instincts—gently shadowing a nervous smaller dog, letting him tuck underneath her when he needed comfort, and even using her body to softly create space and keep other dogs from overwhelming him. At one point, she even tried to encourage him to join in and play.

It’s the kind of quiet kindness you don’t forget.

Nina is truly one of the sweetest beings you’ll ever meet. She just needs a little time, a little patience, and a home that will let her blossom at her own pace. In return, you’ll gain a deeply loving, intuitive companion who will be by your side in the most meaningful way.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you would like to meet Nina, please submit an application for her on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. She is spayed, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $250, which covers part of the medical care she will receive.

**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth.
Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.
