Nide- OS's Story

Nide is an owner surrender cross post. Below is the bio from her family. MPBR has NOT met Nide.

Updated 5/24/2026-

Nide spent some time In the backyard this week, playing ball and chasing after the squirrels and birds too high up in the tree for her to catch. She was so excited to get outside as it was a rainy week and she spent a lot of time this week indoors begging to go outside.

Name: Nide (Pronounced: Indy’)

Nicknames: Nide’ or ‘Miss Nide’

Age or Date of Birth: 3 1⁄2 years old. Born in the fall of 2023, the official date is unknown.

Activity Level: Medium. I enjoy playing outside and going on walks, but I am also a professional couch cuddler.

Things I do in my free time: Playing fetch – although returning the ball is still negotiable. Running outside, playing with my sister, people watching from the window, and taking naps on the couch or in my kennel.

Things I know: Sit, Lay, Kennel, Down, Come, and just about anything else if treats are involved!

Things I am learning/currently working on: We are working on building confidence, improving social skills, leash manners, learning not to rush to the front door when the doorbell rings, and meeting people she does not know.

Who I currently live with (humans and animals): One adult and one dog.

How I do with kids: Unknown, she has not been around small children, but does fine with older kids.

How I do with dogs: I live with one other dog and enjoy playing with her. When meeting new dogs, I may need a little extra time, patience, and slow introductions to feel comfortable, but once I warm up, I enjoy having a companion to look up to and spend time and play with.

How I do with cats: Unknown – we have not seen how she interacts with cats.

My current size: I am a full-grown tank at 50 lbs.

How do I do in my kennel: I LOVE my kennel! If I am not napping on the couch, you can usually find me napping in my kennel with the door open. I also sleep in my kennel at night and stay in it during the day while my human is at work

How I do in car rides: I do well in the car, although sometimes I try to sneak into the front seat instead of staying in the back.

Am I house-trained: Yes, my human lets me out every 4/5 hours during the day.

Additional Info from foster:

Nide was originally rescued from a kill shelter in Oklahoma and brought to Minnesota, where she was saved from being euthanized. When she first arrived, she was underweight and gained 7 pounds in her first week after leaving the shelter. She was later sent to Oregon for adoption, but ultimately was not the right fit for the home. During that time, it was reported that the owner's cats would attack and scratch her, leading her to become less trusting and more cautious in new situations.

Because of her past experiences, she can be unsure when meeting new people or entering unfamiliar environments. With patience and consistency, and a calm approach, she warms up and shows her sweet, affectionate, and cuddly personality. She does best in a home that understands her history and is willing to let her build trust at her own pace.

Nide in Ojibwe means ‘my heart’. She really is a sweet, cuddly girl who will thrive with a family that is patient and ready to give her plenty of love and attention. She is extremely smart and highly food-motivated; she can learn almost anything, especially with treats involved. She does best in a consistent routine with clear expectations, as changes can make her a bit anxious. She can also be vocal at times and is not shy about expressing herself. Since getting back, she has come a long way, but we feel there is still progress to be made as she settles into a stable, supportive, and long-term home. Her favorite toys are playing tug with her sister and chasing after a ball.
