Nicholas aka Ray Charles's Story

Named for the blind scientist and mathematician Nicholas Saunderson, Nick is a friendly, intelligent 73-lb. Carolina Dog, approximately 8 years old. He doesn't let his blindness slow him down - in fact, he can be a bit bullheaded about accepting help when navigating obstacles. With his excellent sense of smell, Nick prefers to figure things out on his own, thank you very much.

Nick is friendly with other dogs once properly introduced, although he does have a preference for females. Before that, he may react defensively, which we believe is related to his blindness. He does well with resident dogs and cats, though he's quite curious about them.

Nick loves his twice-daily walks and will stand patiently while you put on his walking vest. He is a strong puller - especially when he wants to sniff something interesting or greet a new dog - so he'll need an adopter with the strength and confidence to manage him.

He is house-trained, crate-trained, and up to date on vaccinations. Nick is a determined, affectionate dog who will thrive with someone who understands his unique needs and independent spirit.

If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website at arporescue.org to learn more about our adoption process and complete our adoption application. ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis. We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.

Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership, Inc - ARPO's Adoption Policy
ARPO does not have a shelter or physical location. All pets are in foster care. Potential adopters must fill out the Adoption Application. An phone or e-mail interview and home visit are required and does not guarantee adoption. We use these as a tool to make a match for both the adoptive family and the pet. Because home visits are done by a member of our all volunteer staff, we limit this to a 50 mile radius of Indianapolis. Lastly, before taking your new companion, a contract must be signed, including the provision that the adopter will provide quality food, shelter, and medical care. You may follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/adoptarpo/ to find out when and where our next adoption events, fundraisers, success stories, as well as hints and tips in pet care.
