Meet Neptune!<br/><br/>Neptune is a beautiful 3-year-old German Shepherd girl. She was surrendered to a shelter by her owner, and when we found out about her, we knew she needed to join the Serendipity pack. Her foster family has learned that she LOVES people. In fact, her foster mom, who is a German Shepherd expert, describes Neptune as an “easy shepherd.” What more could you ask for?<br/><br/>Neptune already has some impressive practical skills. She knows sit, kennel, drop (when she has a toy), and she comes when called. She's a good listener and responds well to a firm “no.” She is also an excellent car rider. Neptune recently traveled 45 minutes each way to an adoption event and spent most of the trip lying down and relaxing. Road-trip girl? We think so!<br/><br/>And if you enjoy walking, Neptune is ready to be your walking buddy! She loves going for walks and does well on a leash. Of course, she's still a German Shepherd with a very capable nose, so if she catches a particularly interesting scent, there may be a little leash pulling.<br/><br/>Although she loves meeting new people, she doesn't necessarily want a stranger marching straight up to her. She does much better when she can approach someone on her own terms. But give her a minute to take you in, and you’ll discover that she’s a Velcro girl once she trusts you! <br/><br/>What about other animals? Neptune does well with calm dogs her size. As always, a meet-and-greet with resident dogs would be important to make sure everyone is comfortable together. She's currently living with a cat in her foster home. She will sniff the cat, but then she walks away, which is encouraging. We think she may be workable with a cat, although a proper introduction and continued supervision would be important. She's also curious about the chickens in her foster home. Interestingly, when the chickens make noise, Neptune runs away—so we're guessing the chickens may be more intimidating to her than she is to them! <br/><br/>Neptune will do best with people who understand that trust doesn't always happen in the first five minutes. She can get spooked, so slower introductions are important, particularly with younger children. We think she may be a better fit for a home with older children, or a family willing to give younger kids and Neptune plenty of time to get acquainted appropriately. Once she feels safe and comfortable, though, you're likely to have a very devoted companion who wants to be right there with you!
