Nelson's Story

Meet Nelson!

If ever there was a dog who proves that love can work miracles, it's Nelson.

When this handsome brown Staffordshire mix first arrived from Houston, he looked more like a little naked mole rat than a dog. Severe mange had left him nearly hairless, but thanks to lots of care, he's healing beautifully. His coat is growing back every day, and while he still has a few bare patches, they're quickly being replaced by soft fur—and his sweet personality has been shining through from day one. He'll need a little more TLC to help his coat reach its full glory, but the itching is gone, his skin is healing wonderfully, and his future is looking bright.

Nelson is a goofy, affectionate guy who absolutely adores people. He's always happy to wander over for some scritches, lean in for pets, or flop over for a belly rub. He's the kind of dog who just wants to be loved, and he's more than ready to return that love tenfold.

This boy is also VERY food motivated, which has made training a breeze! In just a few short days, he's already making great progress with potty training and learning his basic commands. With a pocket full of treats and a little consistency, there's no telling how much this smart boy will learn.

Nelson has settled in nicely with the other dogs in his foster home and has shown good social skills. Because food was likely a precious resource in his past, he can be a little protective at mealtime, so feeding separately is the best plan for now. The good news is that he happily takes treats alongside the other dogs without any issues, so with continued positive experiences, we think he'll only keep gaining confidence.

When playtime rolls around, Nelson is all in! He's got the energy and stamina to be an excellent hiking buddy, a wrestling partner for another playful pup, or your sidekick on whatever adventure comes next. And when the fun is over, he's more than happy to cash in on cuddles and belly rubs.

Nelson has overcome more in his short life than most dogs ever should, yet he greets each day with a wagging tail, a goofy grin, and an open heart. He's a resilient, loving pup who's ready to leave his rough past behind and start the next chapter with a family who will love him as much as he deserves.

Trust us—Nelson is absolutely worth the meet.

We are concentrated on adopting animals at risk of euthanasia from High Kill Shelters and over population situations. We are dedicated to matching the right pet with the right home. The added advantage to being a foster concentrated organization is that we get to spend extra time with our animals to learn their special needs, we will always be 100% honest with you about the animal you are thinking of adopting, we will always try and match you with the pet that best fits your needs. Please understand that even though we do our best to asses every animal, changing situations can mean changing behaviors. The first step to adopting a animal is to let us know more about you and what you are looking for. Please visit our website at www.lolasrescue.com or email us at
