Nellie's Story

Nellie is a very sweet Yellow Lab mix who is 5 years old and 72 lbs. She's such a great girl who was surrendered to Long Road Home Rescue by her owners when they could no longer take care of her.

She has such a wonderful temperament and seeks out love and affection from her Foster Mom. She gets along very well with other dogs and she just loves kids! She was raised with 2 children and we think she really misses them. She's a very sweet girl and we are dedicated to finding her a loving family who will always take care of her. We know puppies are very popular but dogs like Nellie are the true treasure. She's loving, affectionate, calm, easy to live with and will be a devoted member of your family. Dogs know when they've been rescued! Nellie is healthy, up to date on all her vaccinations and house-trained. She's just waiting for her happily ever after life. Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com) to get lots more info on this sweet girl!

Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes. What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
