Nash's Story
***If you are interested in adopting Nash, please directly email glgrr2003@gmail.com to learn more about his adoption process. Inquiries sent through Petfinder will not be checked.***

This is Nash! He just recently turned 5-months-old. Nash is a very loving, stubborn, silly, complex and active boy. He thrives off of consistency and routine. Nash loves people and he gets so happy every time you come in the front door, even if you left just a few minutes ago. Nash doesn’t love being left alone, so someone who is able to be home a few days of the work week would be ideal. He will settle in his crate, but he won’t do well being left every day for long hours. He also loves his toys and enjoys bringing them from the bedroom to the living room each day. He is very entertained by chasing his own tail. Nash is a good passenger in the car. Nash is getting close to 50lbs and he has big feet, so he is expected to be a larger Golden. One thing that Nash does not like is taking photos and he knows when you are trying to capture his handsome self on the camera!

Nash absolutely loves the other dogs in the home and would greatly benefit from having another dog in his new home, so this is a requirement. Nash can get nervous in new situations or with certain sounds, but other dogs bring him great comfort. He isn't a fan of thunderstorms (experienced a tornado a few months ago) or moving cardboard but will happily chase the vacuum when it is on. There are just random noises he isn't a fan of. He doesn't get destructive when scared, he just wants to cuddle up to you. Nash likes to play a lot, so another active dog and/or a dog who can politely correct him when he is being too wild will be ideal. He has not been around cats. He is pretty intense when playing with other dogs, so I would have some concern that he would try to play and be too rough with an outgoing cat.

Remember how I said Nash is complex? Well, let me share more about that! He can be super sensitive and on the shy side, but he also has a very stubborn and "I'll do what I want" side. This is where consistency is going to be very important. Nash likes to test your rules. An experienced owner would be best for him, as he needs a pack leader who leads with positive reinforcement. A simple "no" won't phase him in most cases. He needs redirection. He is very mouthy and while this is something we have been working on for awhile, it will need continued work in his forever home. Nash can be barky when he isn't happy with something. Overall, potty training is going well. He will go to the same place and you know he has to go. However, he can go rogue once in a while so he should be watched. Given that he is a mouthy puppy, children in the home should be experienced with dogs and over 8 or so years of age.

As you may notice in the photos, Nash is a three-legged pup! Nash came into rescue when he was 8-weeks-old. He was born with a deformed front paw and ankle. He did not walk on this leg and it was painful. Amputation was the best option for him and he has recovered wonderfully! His mobility is good. He is still growing and having growth spurts, so he can be a bit awkward in movements at times, but he is still figuring out his body. He can do a few steps (in moderation) without much issue. He wants to be with his family, so a home where a full flight of stairs is needed to achieve that on a daily basis wouldn't be a good fit for him. He does well on wood floors, but some carpet or rugs would be a bonus!

While he is young, active and needs exercise, it is important for his long-term mobility that he isn't overexerting himself. Nash can go to a home with a physical fence, tie-out or walking plan. Invisible fences will not be an option.

Nash also has Ichthyosis, which is caused by a genetic mutation. Ichthyosis is a condition that causes dry and flakey skin. It isn't painful and he isn't itchy. However, he almost always has "dandruff" and skin flakes in his fur. It is a more mild case of Ichthyosis, but you may find skin flakes on your clothes or furniture. We have found that a fish oil supplement has really helped. More frequent bathing can be helpful as well. Nash is a pretty good boy when getting a bath!

We have had Nash in our home for a few months and we love him greatly, but now he is ready to find his forever family! Nash wants to be someone's best friend. He loves so much. He is determined and we are so proud of how well he has overcome the challenges he has faced. While he can test your patience with his stubbornness, that attitude has certainly helped him through his recovery. We are so excited for him to have his family! Could it be yours?

Nash is being fostered north of Grand Rapids. Any adopter must reside in Michigan, Northern Indiana, or Northern Illinois. Nash has a $550 adoption fee. He is up-to-date on all vaccinations, has had a fecal test, has been microchipped and looked over by a vet. Nash has not been neutered yet, as the natural hormones help with bone/joint development. His new owners will be required to complete a neuter contract at adoption.

***If you are interested in adopting Nash, please directly email glgrr2003@gmail.com to learn more about his adoption process.
