Nalo's Story
In Hawaiian, Nalo (Nah-low) means to be lost, concealed or hidden...camouflaged. A year ago, another dog was picked up on neglect charges by animal control from the same home and at that time it was unknown a second dog was living on the property. When animal control got a call and returned to that home, Nalo was found, living under a trailer, extremely emaciated and shut down. He had large, open wounds on both legs, sores on his hips from sleeping on hard surfaces, his skin was infected and he was covered in fleas and had a tapeworm, hookworm and whipworm infection. He weighed just 56lbs. Like his housemate a year prior, Nalo was taken on neglect charges. His housemate was also a STAAR who we had named Camo. :-) When our founder learned of Nalo being held at animal control until legal release, there was no question he would join our rescue, as well. And so the story behind Nalo and his name began...

With veterinary care, consistent and proper nutrition, lots of love and a safe home, Nalo has flourished into an 80lb, adored American Bulldog mix. He's a lug of dude and his happiest moments are lounging with his humans. He's a people dog at his core and in true American Bulldog fashion, his loyalty runs deep. He has met dogs from 10lbs to 130lbs and does well with all of them. In fact, he's rather indifferent to crazy puppy energy or endless excitement. He's just fine taking a backseat and watching the others exhaust themselves. He's happy with a 5 minute play session and then some Netflix and chill. He's given a sniff and tail wag to the kitties he's met and then goes about his business. He enjoys a good romp in the yard, but when he's ready to head back inside he'll hit the breaks and let you know! LOL This guy won't be taking home any endurance awards.

Nalo does excellent in the car and has been incredibly adaptable. He loves to go visit his friends at the local pet store and say hi to any admirers while out and about. He also loves snacks and that touch of Bulldog stubbornness tends to fade when there's a little bribery involved. Don't worry, he takes his treats like they're made of glass. He's had zero accidents in his kennel. He initially attempted to mark in his foster's home a couple of times, but when told no he immediately stopped. He also has not marked inside since being neutered. He's just an easy going, mellow dude looking for love and an XL bed to spend his afternoons in.

Nalo's adoption fee includes his neuter, microchip, heartworm/tick borne illness testing, vaccines, dewormings and flea/tick/heartworm prevention. It also includes a big head, sweet kisses on the cheek and a dog who's dying to be loved as deeply as he loves his human. If this big guy who thinks he's a lap dog seems like a perfect match, reach out to us!
