Muffin's Story

**Meet Muffin.** 4 YEAR OLD papillon Chihuahua blend at 12 pounds, sassy smart, and she knows this.

Today Muffin joined the pack walk and casually completed **4 miles** like she was training for a tiny dog marathon. She then crawled into the car, curled up by my feet, and looked so sweet and innocent that I felt overwhelmed with love.

So of course I tried to pet her.

And of course Muffin reminded me that **love is a privilege, not a right.**

Muffin is now available for adoption. Please read her résumé carefully:

• Prefers men (she has standards)
• Requires another playful dog in the home, but one that understands she is the main character and does not challenge her authority
• Loves beans. Yes, beans. We don’t ask questions.
• Hates grooming with the burning passion of a thousand suns
• If you are not her person, she will not like you. However, she is generous enough to tolerate your existence so long as you respect her boundaries

The important stuff:
✔ Crate trained
✔ House trained
✔ **Fenced yard required**
✔ Athletic enough for adventures but also enjoys dramatic naps

Muffin is looking for **her people** — someone who appreciates a tiny dog with big opinions, strong boundaries, and the confidence of a CEO.

If you think you’re worthy of earning Muffin’s affection (eventually), apply to adopt. She will review your application and get back to you… maybe.

Muffin arrived early 2nd week of July 2024. On a Monday. I remember that much. She has learned so much. Her personality has blossomed beautifully, and every day it's better. I'm so impressed and excited for Muffin's future.

This girl WAS angry and hot. Touch by any one person or animal was unacceptable. Sharing what she felt was her space which was not tolerated.

She was injured which only exasperated her hurting spirit. Who knows why she hated everyone? We just know whatever reason she had, they were valid, justifying her distrust in everyone. We know she was rescued and adopted out, then surrendered to a shelter, then rescued again, landing in a foster home, and then us as a foster when she was severely hurt by the larger dogs in the home. Muffin (A name that does not suit her at all) has bitten and attacked not just me but almost every dog and cat in our care. It is not as severe as we never let our guard down and are thankful our pack knows better than to initiate. Fast forward 2 months. Her physical wounds are healed. However, her heart, soul, mind, and spirit are mostly healed. She's whole again. She's happy. She's willing. She's interacting. And open to participating and joining in group play and tries anyway. She even initiates play. Mostly, she is the coach and referee. This here is made possible by the power of the pack. Is she ready right now? Possible for the right home. Does she need lots of work still? Absolutely, but she was willing, and there was most of the mountain that needed to be climbed.

Muffin is 3 years of age, about 13 pounds, give or take spicy sassy papillon chi mix. Her heart is guarded but willing. She gravitated toward men easily but was accepting of women, too. She thrives in an environment that offers boundary affirmation, routine structure, confident discipline, and nurturing but still in an assertive way. Unfortunately, no children of any age as kids can be overwhelmingly rambunctious, which will annoy her. A muffin would be best in a confident balance pack. One who will tolerate ignore and not take her issues personally. Muffin is good with cats, dogs, bunnies farm critters big and small. She loves car rides and walks 2 miles without hesitation. Loves to dig holes, roll in dirt and mud is fun, and learn to play with others and discover toys. Muffin is a food-treat motivated, big time. She has medium-low energy. She does not snuggle and cuddle but is accepting of being held or sitting by us. Routine is important for her. Someone is home mostly or who can take her to work. She is 100% house and crate-trained and one who appreciates her space and independence. Not much of a yuppie barker unless she needs to communicate a need.

Muffin is house and crate-trained and walks great on and off-leash. Her recall is pretty good. Muffin has basic obedience training.

All Adoptions Include:
• Spayed/Neutered
• Rabies Vaccination: 1 or 3 years.
• All Age Appropriate Core Vaccinations Including Lepto & Corona. 1 or 3 years.
• Heartworm tested Negative.
•Receive monthly Heartworm, Flea, and Tick Prevention.
• Lyme Disease Tested Negative.
• Dewormed and Fecal tested Negative.
• All testing completed within 6 -12 months.
•All age-appropriate needs (blood work, dental, testing, and meds)
• Lifetime Microchip Registration includes free unlimited updates.
•Feed a quality protein diet

Adoption Processing:
•Adoption application review can take up to 3 weeks.
• A minimum of 2 Meet & Greets are required before adopting.
•A home check needs to take place.
• Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense.
• We do NOT ship any of our adoptable pets.
• Adoption fees are paid at the time of adoption
•No exchange or request for money is required before adoption.
•No payment plans.

AHRS Former Adopter:
• No adoption fee is required; a donation of choice is expected, encouraged, welcome, and appreciated.

Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues and opportunities arise daily that have to be addressed and or rewarded. Continued training is a priority setting them up for success.

Adoption process information and adoption application can be found on our website AdoptAHRescue.org or email us at rescueah@yahoo.com

A minimum tax-deductible suggested adoption fee donation of $400.
