Mr. Murph's Story

Mr. Murph is currently in a foster home. If you would like to meet him, please start by visiting www.sccrescue.org and completing an application.

Meet Mr. Murph—a big-hearted, 80+ pound bundle of personality who’s as friendly as they come. Murph truly loves everyone he meets, whether they’re people, dogs, or even cats. He’s confident, a little goofy, and doesn’t always realize just how big he is, which is part of his charm. He can be handled all over with ease and shows no signs of resource guarding—just a happy, social guy who enjoys his meals, treats, and being part of the action.

Around 1 year old, Murph thrives in an open, relaxed home environment where he can be part of daily life. He’s fully house trained and does great when left loose in the house, often choosing a cozy couch or his bed for naps. However, crates are not his thing—he experiences real distress when confined and will bark nonstop, so he’s looking for a home where crating isn’t necessary. He’s also a vocal boy in general, happily announcing passing squirrels, birds, or the occasional lawn mower, so a detached home (not apartment living) would suit him best.

An outdoor enthusiast at heart, Murph absolutely loves being outside—chasing squirrels, watching birds, and playing fetch are some of his favorite pastimes. On walks, he does well with a gentle leader and is polite when passing people and dogs, though he may get excited and cry to say hello. He’d thrive with an experienced owner, ideally someone who works from home, and would love a fenced yard and a playful dog sibling to share his adventures. If you’re looking for a loyal, lively companion who will fill your home with love (and a little bit of commentary), Murph might just be your perfect match.

We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog.

Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!
