The world felt big and frightening there. The noise never stopped. The floors were cold. I didn’t understand why we were there — only that if I stayed close to Rex, I could be brave.<br/><br/>I followed him everywhere.<br/><br/>If he walked forward, I walked behind him.<br/>If he lay down, I curled up beside him.<br/>When I was unsure, I looked at him and thought, “If he’s okay… maybe I’ll be okay too.”<br/><br/>He was my comfort. My courage.<br/><br/>And then one day, everything changed.<br/><br/>Rex found his forever family in Canada. I watched him leave — tail wagging, stepping toward something wonderful. I was so happy for him… but when the door closed behind him, I felt smaller than ever.<br/><br/>For the first time, I didn’t have anyone to follow.<br/><br/>I tried to be brave by myself. I tried to believe that maybe someone would see me too — the quiet cream-colored boy with the little tan spots and the gentle eyes.<br/><br/>I may be shy at first. New hands and new spaces make my heart beat fast. But if you sit with me… if you speak softly… if you give me just a little time…<br/><br/>You’ll see me change.<br/><br/>I’ll inch closer.<br/>I’ll rest my head against you.<br/>I’ll look at you like you’re my whole world.<br/><br/>Because once I trust you, I love with everything I have.<br/><br/>I don’t need grand adventures. I don’t need to be the center of attention. I just want to feel safe. I want a home where I don’t have to wonder if someone will leave again. <br/><br/>I lost the friend I leaned on…<br/>but maybe that just means it’s time for me to find the person I can lean on forever.<br/><br/>My name is Marciano.<br/>I’m 21 pounds of quiet hope.<br/>And this time… I’m not looking for someone to follow.<br/><br/>I’m waiting for someone who will choose me
