Mr. Ernie's Story

Mr. Ernie is a male red tricolored Aussie approximately 4 years old and around 35 pounds who is learning what life is all about! He lived with 6 other dogs in an outdoor pen with little human interaction, so everything has been new for him! Mr. Ernie has come a LONG way in the time he has been with us.

He is housebroken and medium energy. Mr. Ernie will be slow to trust and warm up to a person but is now ready and able to form a lasting attachment to a person. While initially, he may avoid human interaction, once he feels safe he will start to open up and interact more, asking for affection during quiet moments.

He interacts well with other dogs and ignores all cats. He plays exceptionally well with the one resident dog, playing chase and wrestling!

He feels most comfortable outside and around other dogs. Due to his past he will do best in a home with a secure fenced in yard and at least one other playful doggie companion.

He is quiet and shy but has been learning that people are kind and can be givers of great treats and cuddles. He has improved on the leash but for the first 20 minutes or so of a walk he is still back and forth and all over the place but he does settle into the walk and will walk decently well by my side. It is like he has to get all his nervous energy out! He has gone on adventures to parks and stores and is being exposed to new things. He crates well and will sleep through the night but prefers now to be close to people, so he is left uncrated in our room now that we know he is trustworthy.

This little guy might take a little longer to integrate into a new household and adjust to new humans than a dog from a more conventional background, but he is definitely worth it! Overall he is a really sweet well behaved little guy!

Mr Ernie is being fostered in upstate New York.

To apply for Ernie, visit www.ns4ar.org
