Mossa's Story
PET INSURANCE IS NOT A REQUIREMENT FOR THIS SPECIFIC DOG

Mossa is a spectacular and majestic 10 year old (though he seems much younger and I'm not certain the surrender age is right), 70 pound boy that is so deserving of a home to call his own.

He is magical in every way and incredibly adaptable to his surroundings.

Due to Mossa's breed and size, we're looking for an experienced handler to adopt as Mossa is not for 1st time dog owners.

Mossa joined us from an Ontario shelter, and has been an amazing boy. He does have a bite history, but one that is not his to own. His foster Mom for the shelter startled him when he was sleeping and he nipped, and a 2nd bite came when the fosters tried to take porcupine quills out of his face, instead of taking him direct to a veterinarian. Mossa is paying the price as a dog with a bite history now, but neither were his fault on any level, so please don't judge him by the mistakes of humans.

Mossa is incredibly loyal to his people and is very much a velcro dog, wanting to be with you always. A family that is home most often would be best for Mossa so he doesn't have to spend his days waiting on his favourite person or people to return.

He is incredibly smart and continues to learn and grow. You can indeed teach an old dog new tricks, and Mossa loves to learn.

Mossa is mildly shy meeting new people and dogs, but doesn't take long to make friends, providing he feels they mean no harm. Proper introductions are always needed for all dogs in new situations.

He has been neutered, had some lumps removed, and surgery to correct a āsplit palateā, which means a deep gap under his nose. He has also been treated for Lyme disease, that he picked up from a tick bite. He can be a carrier for life of lyme now, but never be symptomatic.

Mossa is crate trained but not using a crate in his current foster home, but does enjoy it if you have an XL crate.

Mossa shows no signs of any major personality flaws, such as guarding, reactivity or aggression.

Due to his size only, we will not place him in a home with kids 14 or under.

FROM IS SENDING SHELTER:

Overall: Pretty sweet and energetic. Does not act his age (seems younger) based on his activity level.

He can be kind of aloof with people, but is starting to bond with one of our animal care staff in particular, so we know he has that potential.

When he comes out of his kennel, he is focused on anything and everything around him.

His previous owners said he has never bitten anyone or any other animals, but he is used to living as the only pet and is used to being off-leash on a rural property.

FROM HIS FOSTER:

He does not sleep in a crate, but would, but he also loves a good couch, or his large doggy bed or if allowed he will sleep with you.

He's a perfect gentleman without his crate alone and overnight.

Let's you know when he needs to use the outdoors.

He loves a car ride, while looking out every window he can find.

Does not beg at meal time or go through garbage.

Loves to run free in the yard, and is working on his leash manners, but doing really well over the past couple months with leash tolerance.

Once he knows other dogs, with being properly introduced, he will run and play with them and has been terrific.

Mossa is a gentle soul who loves nothing more than a good belly rub and to be petted and cuddled. He loves to be near people and will sit with you, waiting for the first cuddle opportunity.

He understand a number of commands; sit, down, stop, stay, wait and gentle.

He is gentle taking treats and very kind around food and toys.

When he meets new people you have to give him time to come to you so he understands on his terms, that he's safe.

Like with any dog ..... he doesn't like when you try to pet his head when first meeting him, but once you're introduced, he's open for a hello.

Mossa has great table manners and does not whine or beg for food. However, if you leave a little piece delicious unattended, he'll certainly help himself.

-------------------

As of today, though our protocols could change tomorrow, we are still moving forward with adoptions. Our process has changed from some of the previous elements: We are a registered animal welfare organization, so we are deemed an essential service.

All paperwork completed online, video home visits, meet and greets outside respecting social distancing, leashes/collars/supplies wiped down and disinfected (GermiCide 3 wipes), disinfectant on the dog prior to handoff (Aqueos wipes for dogs)

-----------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in his current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.

We also do not claim, endorse, suggest or hint at, that any of our dogs are hypoallergenic, low shed or no-shed.

Adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, deworming, defleaing, vaccinations, food, nose to tail health exam, leash|collar, DNA test for entertainment purposes, dishes, poop bags, food and any extras accumulated in foster care
