Moose's Story

Moose is a male, 4 year old Italian Greyhound, weighing in at about 11 lbs. Moose is a bit quirky and although he loves to snuggle on his foster mom's lap, he is nervous about her walking over to pick him up even after a few months. He still keeps his distance from foster dad, although he will now accept treats from him. He may simply prefer women. Moose needs a lot of time to decompress , and you have to earn his love and trust. He has had some bad experiences in the past with big dogs, and may not do well in a home that has them. He enjoys the company of his iggy foster brother and sister, and would do well with small dogs. Moose is very food motivated, and leaps and twirls for joy when food is coming his way! He knows several commands such as crate, outside, sit, and twirl. He is also a very fashionable iggy and LOVES to wear his pajamas (he came with five pairs), and will even help you put them on. He sleeps quietly in his crate all night, and crates for a few hours a day without issue. Moose also does great in the car, laying down quietly in the crate and sleeping. In his original home he was left crated alone in the house for long periods of time daily and boarded frequently at the vet, and that stressed him out so much it was affecting his health. Shorter crating time and perhaps small dogs in the home so that he is not alone is preferred. Although he has never marked or peed in the house, he will happily poop inside if not taken out after meals and encouraged to do his business outside. Finally, Moose has had to have anesthesia twice under our care, and both times he had a severe reaction including seizures and not breathing without stimulation. It is vital for his health that his future vet be aware of his medical past, and that a future owner is dedicated to at home dental care to limit the amount of anesthesia necessary in his future. Currently he is learning to accept daily teeth cleaning with oral cleansing wipes, as a toothbrush was quite a struggle.<br/>2/27/26 9:49 PM
