MOOSE's Story
MOOSE IS AVAILABLE FOR RESCUE ONLY

Moose is a 3-year-old German Shepherd mix who is searching for a rescue organization with the experience, time, and resources to help him continue the progress he's already begun.

Moose came to the shelter as a frightened, distrustful stray, and while shelter life has been incredibly difficult for him, we've also seen encouraging signs of what he's capable of when he's given consistency and the opportunity to build trust. With the staff members he knows well, Moose has learned to walk calmly, respond to cues like "sit" and "look," take treats gently, and even seek out their company. Those relationships weren't built overnight—they were earned through patience, predictability, and understanding.

Moose remains highly wary of unfamiliar people and can react aggressively when he feels threatened or overwhelmed. He also has a history of resource guarding and dog reactivity, making him unsuitable for placement in a traditional adoptive home at this time. He will require continued behavior modification, careful management, and experienced handlers who understand fearful, defensive dogs.

We believe Moose's best chance lies with a rescue experienced in behavior rehabilitation—one that can provide a structured environment where he can continue learning that the world doesn't have to be so frightening. His recent progress with trusted handlers reminds us that he is capable of forming meaningful relationships when given the time to do so.

Moose is looking for a rescue willing to see not only the dog he is today, but the dog he still has the potential to become. If your organization specializes in working with behaviorally complex dogs and can offer Moose the next step in his journey, we'd love to hear from you.
Any rescues willing to help Moose should email the shelter manager.
