Mooney's Story

Brilliant, Devoted & Looking for Someone Who Gets Him
Mooney is a 7-year-old, 48-pound Australian Cattle Dog mix who is, simply put, one of the smartest dogs you will ever meet. He's trained, tuned in, and ready to be the most devoted partner you've ever had - if you're the right match. Spoiler: the right match is going to have a very, very good time.
The brilliant side: Cattle dogs are legendary for their intelligence, and Mooney is a standout even by that standard. He's well-trained and picks up on everything - your words, your body language, your mood, your routines. He loves to learn and lights up during training sessions, which means he needs a human who will keep that incredible mind engaged. A bored Mooney is a wasted Mooney, and this boy deserves to shine.
The devoted side: For all his smarts, Mooney is also deeply affectionate and wonderfully wiggly. He greets the people he loves with his whole body and genuinely wants to be close to you. After a good training session or a ride in the car - one of his favorite things - he's perfectly happy to curl up for a snuggle or settle into his crate for a peaceful nap. He's adaptable, settled, and has lovely house manners.
The savvy-owner part: Mooney needs someone who understands the cattle dog mind. These are not casual dogs - they are working partners who bond deeply, think constantly, and need structure, purpose, and an owner who leads with confidence and consistency. If you've had a high-drive or herding breed before, you already know the deal. If Mooney is your first cattle dog, go in with eyes open and a training plan ready - you'll be rewarded tenfold.
What Mooney needs: A securely fenced yard is a must - cattle dogs are problem-solvers, and an unfenced world is an unsupervised puzzle. Daily mental and physical exercise, ongoing training, and a person (or family) who will treat him as the intelligent creature he is. He's not a background dog. He's a partner.
At nearly 7, Mooney has all the best things a little age brings - he's settled, trained, and past the chaotic puppy years - with plenty of adventure still ahead. He's ready to find his person and get to work.
Is that you?

**If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our adoption questionnaire.**

The adoption fee for this dog is $425. Dogs receive routine veterinary care and spay or neuter surgery prior to adoption.

For more information, please email fbognon@petconnectrescue.org.
