Moon (AG26-111)'s Story

Moon is a 9-year-old Schnauzer weighing 18 pounds who is a sweet girl with a gentle personality. She can be a bit shy when first meeting someone and may take some time to establish a bond before she feels comfortable. Once she feels safe, Moon will ask for pets and enjoys staying close to the people she trusts.

Moon does well in group settings and gets along well with other dogs. She enjoys exploring her surroundings and showing her curious side. A canine companion in the home is required to help Moon feel comfortable and settled.

Moon is still getting used to being touched and picked up, but she has done well with slow, gentle approaches. She enjoys getting baths and being spoiled during grooming sessions, making her a little pampered girl at heart!

Moon is currently learning her leash skills and is continuing to build her comfort with walking on leash. A secure, fenced-in yard is required while she continues developing these skills.

A meet and greet is required as part of the adoption process to help ensure Moon is a good fit for her potential family and any resident dogs.

With patience, consistency, and a little time to settle in, Moon is sure to make a sweet and devoted companion.
------
Many NMDR dogs have had limited prior socialization and may need time, patience, and support as they adjust to home life. Skills such as house training, leash walking, and handling may require continued practice. Progress will vary by individual dog. Homes with older children are often a good fit, depending on temperament. To learn more about NMDR and our adoption process, please visit our website.

National Mill Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
At NMDR, we use a welcoming, conversation-based adoption process! We look at every applicant as a partner, offering honest education about our dogs' needs so you can make the best choice for your lifestyle. We generally do not deny adoptions based solely on yard size, housing type, adopter age, or having other pets. Because many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeding facilities, we maintain a few firm safety and mission-aligned policies: Spay/Neuter Requirement: To help end the cycle of irresponsible breeding, all resident dogs in your home must be spayed or neutered. Homes with Children: Many of our dogs had limited socialization before rescue. Older kids are often a great match! Homes with younger children are considered individually based on the dog’s needs and the adopter’s experience with home management. Companions Only: Our dogs are adopted strictly as indoor family companions. Out-of-State Adopters: You are welcome to apply, but you must travel directly to the specific shelter housing the dog (in CO or MO) to complete the adoption. We do not ship or transport dogs. A Supportive Safety Net: Life is unpredictable, and sometimes a match isn't perfect. We discuss long-term safety nets with all adopters, and if a placement doesn't work out, we welcome our dogs back with zero judgment. Fees: Adoption fees vary by age and directly offset the extensive veterinary care, dental work, and rehabilitation each dog receives before adoption. Ready to meet your new best friend?
