He has a darling personality & is extremely affectionate and loving! Monty wants to sleep as close to you as possible in your bed yet he’s sometimes been found in the morning sleeping on the couch in the family room! Especially if his buddy Susie has gone in there! <br/><br/>Being a curious dog, Monty is always interested in doing whatever the family is doing. He’s up for anything! One of his greatest joys for this sweet guy is hanging out with other dogs outside. Playing, chasing, rough-n-tumble, chewing sticks, running through leaves, watching for squirrels, playing tug of war, sniffing everything in the yard, sometimes digging for treasures! He’s super good about stopping doing something he shouldn’t be doing when his foster simply calls out his name. And of course, finding a sunny spot to catch a little nap time, well it’s all enjoyable for him!<br/><br/>A really wonderful thing about Monty is that he is easily entertained with toys, chew bones and balls. He will seek out the toys he wants and entertain himself quietly for a long time. Don’t let it bother you if he tears up a stuffy or two- he’s enjoying himself and doing what dogs do. <br/><br/>Monty is great in a crate. He walks well on a leash. He’s perfect at the dog park because he gets along with everybody no matter their size, age, or breed, He uses a doggie door, is good at the vet, curious about kitties, a wonderful snuggler, funny, and goofy at times, always had us giggleing!<br/><br/>He’d be a great dog to take camping, ride with you in your car wherever you want go. He travels well on the road and has been on 12 hour trips, stopping to stretch our legs along the way, and he does great. Mont Mont will benefit greatly from some formal training like PetSmart offers. He’s a smart boy who thrives on learning! <br/><br/>Monty will do best in a home with other dogs and respectful children. A home that provides good exercise and a stimulating environment with a focus on consistent routines and loving discipline. This boy is an inside dog and should be included as a full member of the family! <br/>__________________________<br/>SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT MONTY:<br/>* 72 lbs as of September 2025<br/>* He’s a hound of some kind and most resembles a Harrier Hound mix. <br/>(Breed/Breed-Mix is a best guess only)<br/>* Came to SPAR via police who cut him loose when his owner was arrested. They had no place to put the dog and it’s our understanding that his owner was unhoused at the time. We are glad a concerned citizen saw this and told the police she would take him. She brought him to us Dec 2023. <br/>_______________________<br/>MORE ABOUT MONTY: <br/>* Type of Coat- short, smooth <br/>* Color- Red/Gold and white <br/>*. 2.5 years old<br/>* Current Weight: 72<br/>* Ideal Weight: 68<br/>* Chew toys, chew bones, tug of war ropes, balls, squeaky toys, tough chew toys— all his favorites! <br/>* Needs some formal training- he’s smart and will learn anything quickly. <br/>* Loves to Run<br/>* Loves to relax in the sun<br/>* Sleeps on his people’s bed, a couch or comfy chair, but would probably enjoy having a dog bed of his own, too. <br/>* Housebroken<br/>* Monty will come get you or bark once and repeat it (if you’re not responding fast enough) to indicate needs to go outside <br/>* Uses a Doggie Door<br/>* Crate Trained - will immediately go in his crate if he knows a little treat is coming. <br/>* Walks well on a Leash<br/>* Used to a Collar and a Harness<br/>* Travels well in a car - always ready to go, but is calm in the car. Loves to watch through the window, but lying down and napping comes easily too.<br/> <br/>* Energy/Activity Level- High, but not a maniac at all! He’s a good boy and he knows how to relax, be chill, and he’ll just grab a toy or bone to keep himself occupied. <br/>* Favorite Activities - playing with dogs, hanging out doing whatever his people are doing! Complete & submit the adoption application. https://sparpets.org/adoptionapplication/<br/>2. A SPAR Rep reviews the application. <br/>3. A phone interview with the applicant(s) is scheduled & conducted by a SPAR Rep. <br/>4. SPAR adoption policies, expectations, & guarantees are explained. <br/>5. A meet & greet with the SPAR dog & the all of the applicant’s family members that live in the home. <br/>6. Compatibility assessment completed to ensure the applicant's family pets & the SPAR dog get along. <br/>7. Home visit conducted prior to every adoption. <br/>8. A sleepover trial period is often helpful. The SPAR dog stays with the family for a short, predetermined time period to better evaluate the pairing. <br/>9. Two day waiting period prior to the adoption may be necessary to give the applicant and the rescue time to decide if it’s a good fit. <br/>10. Any additional paperwork is exchanged and the adoption contract must be signed <br/>11. Application fee collected <br/>12. Adoption finalized and the pet is turned over to their new- forever- family!! <br/>___________________________________<br/>SPAR ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:<br/>• A dog-tight fenced yard<br/>• SPAR Dogs must reside indoors. We expect that they live as part of the family in the home.<br/>• We expect that they receive regular vet care to include annual vet check and vaccinations.
