After spending nearly seven months in a Houston shelter, a Texas family stepped up to foster him — never expecting he would be with them for almost two years. He is very loved where he is, but Monty deserves a forever family to call his own.<br/><br/>Monty is a mixed breed dog with a wonderful, balanced personality. He recently graduated from a board-and-train program where he learned excellent manners and leash skills. He walks very well on leash, listens nicely, and loves his daily walks. Monty enjoys running around the yard, playing with toys, and then relaxing on the couch. He can be slightly independent at times, but once he bonds with you, he is affectionate, loyal, and loving. Monty is also crate trained and does well keeping a routine.<br/><br/>Important information regarding other pets: While out for a walk with his foster family, Monty was attacked by stray dogs. He did not fight back, but the experience made him more cautious around unfamiliar dogs. With slow, calm introductions, he has done well with larger, lower-energy dogs and we believe he would enjoy the right companion. He simply needs time and patience. Monty would do best in a home without cats.<br/><br/>Monty is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, on monthly preventatives, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $300.
