Some dogs are fighters from the very beginning... and Monica has been proving that since the day she was born.<br/><br/>Before she ever opened her eyes, Monica had already beaten the odds.<br/><br/>Her mama was found dumped in the desert while pregnant and was brought into rescue. When labor began, Monica was the very first puppy born—but she wasn’t breathing.<br/><br/>Gray. Silent. Still.<br/><br/>Her foster mom immediately jumped into action and began CPR. After a few terrifying moments, Monica took her very first breath.<br/><br/>And from that moment on, she’s done what she does best:<br/> Fight.<br/> Grow.<br/> Live life to the absolute fullest.<br/><br/>And now... our warrior girl just turned ONE YEAR OLD! <br/>Monica has grown into a beautiful large-breed girl, likely a Pyrenees/Retriever mix, with a personality just as big as she is. She’s bold, goofy, affectionate, incredibly smart, and happiest when she’s right beside her people.<br/><br/>She’s currently attending training classes, where she’s not only learning new skills but also building her confidence and strength. Monica is one smart cookie—especially when food is involved! She’s very food motivated and already knows sit, down, stay, and “house” for her kennel.<br/><br/>She walks beautifully on a leash and truly just wants to be near you. She’s still young, though, and occasionally gets excited about the world around her and may try to pull every now and then. After all... she’s still very much a puppy at heart!<br/><br/>Monica is good with dogs of all sizes, although she definitely likes to PLAY ROUGH! She also does well with kids and babies alike, though—as with all dogs—she should always be supervised around babies and young children.<br/><br/>Her favorite things?<br/> FETCH.<br/> Squeaky and crinkly toys.<br/> Snacks and learning new things.<br/> Being close to her people.<br/><br/>She’s currently working on perfecting her “drop it” command... because apparently giving the ball back after fetch is a little less exciting than getting the ball. <br/><br/>As bold and full of life as Monica is, she’s also a sensitive girl.<br/>She feels everything.<br/>She notices everything.<br/>And somehow, that just makes her love her people even harder.<br/><br/>Monica is still growing and learning, and she’ll continue to need consistency, mental stimulation, appropriate chew outlets, and lots of love to thrive. She’s a smart, strong-willed girl with plenty of puppy energy, so her future family should be ready to continue her training and help her become the incredible adult dog she’s already well on her way to being.<br/><br/>Little note for Monica’s future family: her dermatologist has recommended that she remain on Simparica Trio for the next year to support her ongoing skin and coat health. <br/><br/>After being returned to rescue through no fault of her own, Monica is ready for the next chapter of her story.<br/><br/>We’re not looking for a perfect home.<br/><br/>We’re looking for the family that sees this big, goofy, sensitive, loving girl and says: “You’re worth the time.”<br/>Because she is. <br/><br/>Monica fought for her very first breath.
