Mochi's Story

Not all stories start like Mochi's.
Back in September, an emaciated Akita with a ratchet strap embedded in her neck came to us in desperate need of help, and Partners for Pets stepped in without hesitation. What followed was months of healing. Daily cold laser therapy, constant bandage changes, and so much patience. Through it all, Mochi showed us exactly who she is: tolerant, loving, and unbelievably forgiving.
Now fully healed and ready for a home, Mochi has been waiting, and waiting, and waiting... Including her recovery time, she is the longest resident in our care, living shelter life for 205 days and stepping onto our adoption floor for 157 days with minimal interest.
And we just don't get it.
Mochi loves people of all age and size. She really, really loves toys. She walks beautifully on a leash and keeps a spotless kennel. She's calm and easygoing, but enjoys playtime when the mood hits. She can be a little picky with food, but ice cream and pork flavored treats are her absolute favorites. She does well in a crate, doesn't know formal commands, but has lovely natural manners and will come when called... when she feels like it. (Akita )
We suspect part of the reason Mochi has been overlooked is due to her breed. She is independent and confident, and not the kind of dog who needs constant affection. She's happiest doing her own thing, then checking in for love on her terms. It makes the moments she chooses you that much more special.
Mochi can play with male dogs her size, but her ideal home is one where she can be the only dog, maybe with occasional visits from a pal. She has a pushy, vocal playstyle and makes sure other dogs know that she is the queen- no ifs, ands, or buts. She is also incompatible for homes with cats.
If you love Akitas, primitive breeds, or you're a cat person ready to switch things up a bit, we can guarantee you will fall head over heels for Mochi! She has waited more than long enough. Let's find her the home she deserves.
Partners for Pets
9136 Lower Marine Road
Saint Jacob, IL 62281
Sunday-Saturday 11-5; Wednesday 11-6
ADOPT
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PAD/Dog
