Mocha's Story

Meet Mocha!

Breed: Shepherd
Weight: 60 lbs
Sex: Female (Spayed)
Fostered in Brights Grove, ON

Personality & Story
Mocha was surrendered into rescue care at a young age and is now looking for a stable, experienced, and loving home where she can truly thrive. She is a very sweet, submissive, and affectionate girl who forms strong bonds with her people. She is friendly with both men and women and settles quickly once she feels safe and comfortable.

Mocha is very people-oriented and does wonderfully with those she knows and trusts. She has been comfortable meeting visitors in her foster home and has done well with family members and friends entering her space. She also plays nicely with other dogs she is familiar with, showing a puppy-like, social side in safe introductions.

Energy & Needs
Mocha is an active, outdoor-loving dog who thrives with space, freedom, and regular exercise. She would do best in a home with a yard or large outdoor area where she can run, explore, and relax. She is happiest when she has access to outdoor time and enjoys spending much of her day outside observing her environment and engaging with her surroundings.

She has strong natural shepherd instincts and is very alert to activity outside her space. She will bark at unfamiliar people or movement near her property, displaying typical watchdog behaviour. She is calmer and more content when she has room to move and patrol her environment.

Training & Behaviour:
- House trained
- Walks well on a loose leash when focused
- Knows basic commands including sit, stay, touch, come, and drop it (with continued reinforcement needed)
- Takes redirection well but can become highly focused on her environment
Mocha does not enjoy being indoors for long periods, especially in the evenings, and prefers to be outside where she feels most relaxed and settled. She has shown she is most content when she has outdoor access and companionship nearby.

Compatibility & Ideal Forever Home:
Cats: Good
Dogs: Has had positive interactions and can play well with other dogs she knows but would do best being the only dog in the home.
People: Friendly with both men and women
Children: Comfortable with people she is introduced to in her space, older children is preferred

Mocha would do best in an experienced home, ideally with shepherd or working-breed experience, that understands her need for structure, space, and purpose. She is best suited to a property with a large outdoor area where she can safely roam, decompress, and truly feel at ease.

She is not suited to a home expecting a very indoor-oriented dog, as she is most regulated and content when she has consistent access to the outdoors. She thrives in an environment where she can move freely, observe her surroundings, and engage in natural watchdog behaviour in a healthy, structured way.

With the right setup and understanding, Mocha is incredibly loving, loyal, and deeply bonded to her people. She thrives on companionship, outdoor freedom, and clear expectations. In the right home, she will flourish into a devoted and confident companion who truly comes into her own.
