Moana's Story
Back on January 28th two tiny little girls were found near the Mahoning Ave Bridge in Youngstown. They were emaciated, dehydrated, full of parasites and were anemic. Their fur was caked in dry urine and feces and their nails were long and brittle. They had escaped abuse and neglect of an unimaginable kind. We named them Moana and Mulan.

Both girls grew healthy rather quickly. They were not sick they were starved. All that it took was a slow refeeding schedule, dewormer and some really good baths....and they were on the road to a happy healthy life.

The girls played with Kimberly who was pup their same age. When Mulan was adopted a few weeks later Moana and Kimberly became the best of friends.

Moana and Kimberly shared a room together. They would play with Brodie and give the poor guy a run for his money. The three of them had an absolute blast! After some time passed Kimberly also found a home of her own. At that time we decided to move Moana into the kennel and out of the room that they had shared. She still went out and played with Brodie and she didnt seem to mind being in the kennels with the other dogs around.

We noticed that she would peak in on her next door neighbor Lena and Lena would do the same. Whenever they were coming or going they would pause and take a peak at each other. We tried the two of them together and they became the best of friends! Playtime was the best part of their day!

Well, as Moanas luck goes, Lena was adopted and shortly after Brodie was too. It has been a few weeks now. We have not found a new buddy for her yet. She hurt her leg jumping up and down and had to take it easy.

Moana has not yet seen what a life with a family could be like. She may have never even seen the inside of a home before. Her life started off tragic. Since then she has made the best of it here, making friend after friend only to lose them to their new families. We are hoping that her turn comes soon!

Moana will do best in a home with a friendly playful doggy friend. She will need to learn some manners. Friends Of Fido MCDP covers the cost of basic obedience training for the dogs adopted from us. Moana is a smart girl. She will learn quickly.

Please share her. She is growing up here in this overcrowded lonely place.

1 yr old pit bull mix
Dog friendly
Kids and cats unknown
45-50 lbs

If you are interested in this pup please follow this link to fill out an application:

https://www.mahoningcountyoh.gov/FormCenter/Contact-Forms-5/Dog-Warden-Adoption-Application-66

Once approved we will contact you to set up a time to come in.

Mahoning County Dog Warden
1230 N Meridian Rd Youngstown, Ohio 44509

330-740-2205

Office hours:
M-W-F 8:00-4:30
T-TH 8:00-5:30
Sat 9:00-noon

Adoption fees vary between $200-$250.
