Mittzie

Mitzie is an 11-month-old Toy Poodle who weighs just 4.8 pounds, but this tiny girl has a whole lot of personality and an incredibly sweet spirit!<br/><br/>Mitzie originally came from a breeder and was purchased as a puppy. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and needed surgery. When her owners were unable to afford the medical care she needed, she was returned to her breeder and eventually brought to our shelter so she could get the help she deserved.<br/><br/>Mitzie has since undergone a Femoral Head and Neck Ostectomy (FHO). During an FHO, the damaged "ball" portion of the hip joint—the head and neck of the femur—is surgically removed. As the area heals, the body forms a type of "false joint" made of scar tissue, allowing the leg to move without the painful bone-on-bone contact of the damaged hip. With healing, rehabilitation, and time, the goal is for Mitzie to be able to use her leg comfortably and enjoy a much more pain-free life.<br/><br/>What amazes us most about Mitzie is her personality. She is one of the sweetest, happiest little dogs you could meet. Even though she has likely spent much of her young life dealing with hip pain, you would never know it by her attitude. Her tail is always wagging, she loves attention, and she seems genuinely happy just to be with you. <br/><br/>Mitzie is currently recovering from her surgery and doing great! She will need some time to finish healing and regain strength in her leg, but we are hopeful that once she has recovered, she will finally get to experience life without the constant hip pain she has known for so long.<br/><br/>Mitzie is spayed, current on her vaccinations, and ready for a wonderful future.<br/><br/>At only 11 months old, Mitzie has her whole life ahead of her. We can't wait to see this sweet little 4.8-pound girl fully healed, feeling good, and spoiled by a family of her very own.
