Mitch's Story

This friendly, good-natured young hound mix is from a litter of ten puppies that were dumped on a remote country road in Adair County, Kentucky at just 13 weeks of age. Healthy but unvaccinated, most of them contracted parvo; all but one survived.

Mitch is a parvo survivor. We're so glad he made it!

Their daddy was part Treeing Walker Coonhound, a common breed in Kentucky, but Mitch's DNA test shows lots of other breeds, including Border Collie, Husky, and even Poodle! Which explains why he's not as "houndy" as some of his brothers.

Mitch is laid back, gentle, playful and most of all, a love bug. He enjoys getting hugs and belly rubs, returning the favor with snuggles and kisses.

Even-tempered and low-key, Mitch gets along with all kinds of other dogs - big, small, old, and young, and plays well with others. He would be great in a home with kids and a big backyard to play in. We haven't tested him with cats though! So a slow, supervised introduction would be recommended.

Mitch is 7 months old, up-to-date on vaccinations, and current on heartworm and flea-and-tick preventative. He weighs 35 lbs, and may grow to 50lbs when mature, according to his DNA results.

He is housebroken and crate trained; in fact, he sleeps in his crate overnight and when his foster mom is working. He's a very well-mannered young dog, and has started leash training, showing no tendency to pull.

This sweet kid will make the right family very happy!
