Missy's Story

For more information, visit www.goldenretrieverfreedom.org and review GRFR's adoption requirements and fill out an online application.

Please note that GRFR does not adopt out of state.

Missy will need another Large Confident dog in the home and a 6 ft fence

Missy is a gorgeous two-year old purebred female. She didn't start out with the normal happy golden life, but is learning what it's like to be a dog that's loved and part of a family. Missy loves her golden foster brothers and little labbie sister (who is teaching her how to be a princess). She enjoys running around with them and flirting and playing. Her tail is up and wagging and she's so happy.

She still plays her favorite game of' avoid my foster mom,' but she's come so far in a few weeks. She now cuddles in bed at night and in the morning. Missy is even a little obnoxious when asking and nudging for attention, which is just so adorable to see. Her golden confidence is breaking through! She has learned to sit with the pack for a treat and she thinks she deserves it the most, so her shyness is falling away. She will occasionally jump up on the couch with her foster mom, but it's usually when another dog is close by getting attention.

There are still moments when it's just like the movie Groundhog Day. Every morning when her foster mom stands up, we start over with the trust game but she's acclimating faster than she ever did before. It will take time for her love and trust a new person. Her forever home should expect her to slowly warm up to them and that could take a few weeks. She desperately wants to be a typical golden and you can see it in her moments of love and happiness.

She goes in and out of the house on her own and loves lounging in the leather chair. She is completely housetrained and has never had an accident. She shares food and treats with the other dogs. Missy is given free roam of the house and she hasn't had any issues. She is picking up toys and playing tug-of-war with the others. She loves to flirt with the boys and wrestle and play.

Missy has learned a lot during her time in foster care and she's probably ready to be adopted into her forever home, or at least entertain some very enticing offers. She will always need at least one other confident dog in her home and maybe even two (or a kitty friend). Her current foster home has a six foot fence and we think that would be a good idea for her forever home too. She doesn't jump and isn't mouthy, but small children could scare her so maybe a home with either older kids or none would be recommended.

I'm sure as you're reading this bio, you're thinking that Missy sounds like a lot of effort and there are easier dogs out there (and there are). Once you gain the love and trust of a dog like Missy, she will forever be loyal and she will love you unconditionally and more than you could ever think possible. You will be her entire world. In the end, that's what makes her worth it.

For more information, please take a look at www.goldenretrieverfreedom.org.
