Meet Miss Kokomo! Kokomo is a 2.5-year-old Pitbull Terrier/Mix. Kokomo is a lady of multiple character traits, shy, bashful, funny, and sweet! Because of her shy initial presence, we do believe she'd do best with meeting anyone with a staff member there to give her the confidence she needs. Kokomo is a queen, a legend, and a comedian shelter-wide, which means she'd rather be your one and only gal with no other furry friends to steal her shine. THEN either call the shelter at 217-344-7297 or contact us via email at adoption@cuhumane.org to let us know you have submitted the application and would like for us to begin processing it. Once we have your application all approved, we will schedule a time for you to come in and meet with Miss Kokomo! Miss Kokomo is a STAFF FAVORITE pet! Like all introverted ladies, she takes her time getting to know new people, but she is very gentle and sweet. I can't help but feel special when Miss Kokomo gives me kisses or gets super excited at seeing me; it took a bit of patience and lots of pupsicles, but we are good friends now. She can definitely seem a bit awkward or stubborn at times, but relaxes her whole body into you for lots of cuddles once she's comfortable. She really seems to enjoy our evening walks when there aren't any other dogs around, and she can sniff the whole yard uninterrupted. She's got quite a unique personality and is super quirky, but I find her very sweet and easy to love. "

Champaign County Humane Society's Adoption Policy

The first step toward adoption is coming to the shelter to meet the animals. Once you have decided on an animal you would like to adopt, you will be asked to fill out an adoption application followed by a brief interview with one of our adoption counselors. If you prefer to fill out an Adoption Application online ahead of time, please visit the CCHS website. While submitting an application online will save some time during your visit to the shelter, submitting an application online does not place a "hold" on an animal, nor is it a guarantee of adoption. It generally takes 24-72 hours for the adoption staff to complete processing applications, so we do not send animals home the same day. MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS: CCHS accepts up to three applications per pet and priority for adoption is given to the first family to submit an application. If interested in a specific animal, we recommend calling the shelter prior to your visit for more information on their status. Please bring a valid photo ID with you for your visit to the shelter. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt from CCHS. Hours for Adoptions: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM Saturday and Sunday: 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM The shelter is closed on Tuesdays and major holidays.
