Champaign County Humane Society
Our Mission
CCHS has been privileged to serve Champaign County, Illinois for over a century. Â As the only open-admission animal shelter and adoption center in Champaign County, we accept all owner-relinquished companion animals in need, regardless of age, medical condition. or suitability for adoption.
Adoption Policy
The first step toward adoption is coming to the shelter to meet the animals. Once you have decided on an animal you would like to adopt, you will be asked to fill out an adoption application followed by a brief interview with one of our adoption counselors.
If you prefer to fill out an Adoption Application online ahead of time, please visit the CCHS website. While submitting an application online will save some time during your visit to the shelter, submitting an application online does not place a "hold" on an animal, nor is it a guarantee of adoption. It generally takes 24-72 hours for the adoption staff to complete processing applications, so we do not send animals home the same day.
MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS: CCHS accepts up to three applications per pet and priority for adoption is given to the first family to submit an application. If interested in a specific animal, we recommend calling the shelter prior to your visit for more information on their status.
Please bring a valid photo ID with you for your visit to the shelter. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt from CCHS.
Hours for Adoptions:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM
