Mishka's Story

AGE: 4 years

SEX: Female

BREED: Bully Mix

ENERGY LEVEL: Medium-High

DOG FRIENDLY: Yep!

CAT FRIENDLY?: Untested

KID FRIENDLY?: Untested - child free home preferred

FOSTER IG: @chiweenie.eevee

Meet Mishka! This sweet, sensitive girl has the most beautiful and special personality. While she may be shy at first, underneath her timid exterior is an incredibly loving dog who forms deep bonds with the people she trusts. Once you're in her circle, Mishka becomes a total cuddle bug and velcro dog, happiest when she's close to her favourite person. She loves attention and has an adorable habit of pawing the air when she'd like some extra pets. As her confidence has grown, so has her playful side - when she plays with toys, she doesn't just chase them, she bounces and pounces with enthusiasm, making it impossible not to smile. Mishka is also extremely food motivated, which has helped her build confidence and learn new skills.

Mishka is house trained, crate trained, and absolutely loves her crate. It's her safe space, and she's perfectly content relaxing there when left home alone. She has no separation anxiety and settles beautifully on her own. She already knows cues like sit and wait, patiently holding her position while her meals are prepared. Mishka currently lives with a small dog and has done well sharing her home, and she has met other dogs neutrally on walks. One of the most rewarding things about Mishka is watching her work through her fears. She's naturally curious and, while new things may initially make her nervous, she's often brave enough to investigate them and learn they're not so scary after all. Recently, she's discovered that she loves walks, and as her confidence continues to grow, she's started showing a more energetic and adventurous side.

Mishka would do best in a quieter suburban neighbourhood where she can continue building confidence at her own pace. She can be fearful when meeting new people and is especially fearful of men. Because of this, she would thrive in a home with women, or a home with both women and men where everyone understands that earning her trust will take time, patience, and consistency. Men should expect that she may initially be reactive or display intimidating behaviours, but these responses come from fear. Mishka is looking for someone willing to let her move at her own pace and celebrate the small victories along the way. She can also be strong on leash and will benefit from continued support with her walking skills. In the home, Mishka will occasionally alert bark or huff when she hears unfamiliar sounds outside, though she responds very well to gentle guidance and redirection.

Mishka would likely do best in a home without children, where her sensitive nature can be respected and she can feel safe and secure. She is looking for a family willing to continue helping her navigate the world in a way that builds confidence rather than fear. In return, they'll discover an incredibly loyal, affectionate companion whose true personality is worth every bit of the journey. Watching Mishka blossom is a special experience, and the lucky person who earns her trust will gain a best friend for life.

Think you might be the right fit to provide a loving home for Mishka? New Collar Collective's Adoption Policy
ADOPTION PROCESS 1. Complete and submit an adoption application. All applications will be screened, and applicants will receive an email response letting you know whether your application has been approved to move to the next step in our process or not. If you have not received a response from us, first check your spam/junk folder before sending us an email. 2. You will be asked to submit two personal references, and a vet reference where applicable, as part of our process. Please make sure to let them know that they may be contacted by one of our volunteers. Veterinarian clinics will require your permission to share any information with our team. 3. A phone interview will be scheduled with one of our adoption coordinators via email or phone. 4. Your adoption coordinator will connect with one of our volunteers to schedule a home visit. Home visits will be completed virtually or in-person depending on available resources. If a virtual home visit is completed and there are any outstanding questions or concerns, New Collar Collective reserves the right to do a follow up (in person) home visit. Volunteers conducting virtual home visits will be required to direct the home visit so we are assured they have seen all areas of the home. Volunteers conducting in-person home visits will be encouraged to bring a friend along for their safety. In this case, you will be notified in advance. 5. A meet & greet will be coordinated with the animal’s foster. All members of the household (including dogs) will be required to attend the meet and greet. 6. Post meet & greet If there are no further questions or concerns, applicants will contact their adoption’s coordinator to let them know if they would like to move forward with the adoption. Adopters will be contacted to provide all contract requirements. ADOPTION POLICIES The policies outlined below are guidelines and there may be instances where an exception can be made upon the agreement of the adoption management/Board of Directors. Periodically, New Collar Collective will revisit these guidance policies to ensure they still meet the intended needs of the rescue. We do not adopt to applicants who live outside of our adoption radius. We do not ship dogs. Adopters are responsible for picking up their newly adopted pet. All pets in your household must be spayed and neutered. All pets in your household must be up to date with mandatory vaccinations. We do not allow applicants to test out a cat/dog before adoption. We expect that applicants will take the necessary time to meet with the dog or cat, talk with the foster, and ask lots of questions. Our rescues have already been through so much, we feel it is in their best interest that trials do not occur. *Exception for Foster-to-Adopt applicants All members of the household must be present during the Home Visit and the Meet and Greet. We do not adopt to families with children under the age of 4. The full adoption fee is due at the time of adoption. We do not offer payment plans.
