Misha's Story
Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico's streets. The Meximutt Project, a BAPBR initiative, tackles this crisis at the source—through comprehensive spay/neuter programs and by connecting rescued dogs with loving Oregon families.

Since 2019: 400+ dogs adopted, 3,200+ spayed/neutered.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? Read carefully and apply at www.bapbr.org.

We’re unable to respond to Petfinder inquiries due to a system issue that prevents us from viewing them.

***************************************

Meet MISHA

• ~2 years old

• 13 lbs

• Chihuahua-Terrier mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!)

• Good with other dogs. NO CATS. We haven't seen her around kids yet but think she'd be good with them.

• HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. Our dogs often need 1-2 weeks (sometimes more) of further training to become fully housebroken. While in group foster care, they aren’t in an environment where structured potty training is possible, as they often live in areas without access to grass or carpet.

• Currently in Guadalajara foster care. 2-4 weeks to arrange flight once adoption is approved.

**MEET MISHA**

When we first met Misha, she was a small, trembling figure seeking refuge at a gas station. At a little over a year old, she had the telltale signs of recent motherhood - her body still producing milk for babies who were nowhere to be found. For days it seemed she had been waiting at that gas station, perhaps for her babies who may have been taken from her, or a family that had abandoned her..

The scar around her neck tells another story - one of being tethered so tightly for so long that it left its permanent mark. When we finally brought her to safety, they discovered she was battling pyometra, a life-threatening infection that had been silently poisoning her system. This brave little soul had been suffering in ways we can barely imagine, yet somehow still had love to give.

**The Transformation: From Broken to Believing**

"When Misha first arrived, she was afraid of everything," shares her foster mom. "She would tremble at every sound, every movement. But watching her discover that the world could be gentle... that's been the most beautiful thing."

The change has been remarkable. The skeletal, terrified dog who once cowered at shadows now greets each morning with joy. She's gained healthy weight, her coat has regained its shine, and most importantly, she's learning that human hands bring comfort, not pain.

**Present Day: A Heart That Overflows**

Today's Misha is what rescue volunteers lovingly call a "velcro dog" - she wants to be wherever you are, whenever you're there. She's mastered the art of the perfect snuggle, curling up against you like she's trying to merge souls. When you return home, she doesn't just wag her tail - she launches into a full-body celebration, jumping and spinning as if your arrival is the best thing that's ever happened to her.

Misha has learned to coexist peacefully with other dogs, though it seems she might prefer to be someone's one and only. She would be best in a household without cats, since she is high energy and often chases them.

And though we haven't seen her interact with kids, we have no doubt she'd be the sweetest companion to them.

**What Makes Misha Irreplaceable**

Misha has been through immeasurable pain and loss, yet she faces each day with gratitude and happiness, ready to give love to all those around her.

Despite all the hardships she's endured in her short two years, Misha today is pure joy in motion. She zooms around the house with boundless energy, delighting in play with her housemates. Her carefree spirit—perhaps always there beneath the surface—has finally been set free.

Whether you're an active family seeking an adventure buddy or prefer quiet evenings with a loyal companion, Misha would be equally content.

Are you ready to be Misha's entire universe?

***************************************

READY TO APPLY? HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT:

Because our dogs cannot return to Mexico if there isn't a good fit, we're extra thorough in matching each dog with the right family—ensuring lifelong success for both dog and adopter.

1. We arrange the flight to Oregon (included in fee) with weekly photo/video updates
4. Airport pickup at PDX—pay adoption fee, receive medical records, welcome your new family member home!

• Timeline: 2-4 weeks for CDC/USDA paperwork and flight arrangement once approved
• Adoption Fee: $650 includes:
Flight to U.S. • Spay/neuter • USDA import permit • Health Certificate •
All vaccines (DHLPPi, Rabies, Bordetella) • Full blood work & health tests (CBC, blood parasite tests, parvo/giardia/coronavirus test) • Flea/tick/heartwork treatment & deworming • Microchip • Grooming • Collar, leash & ID tag
• Payment: Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, Zelle, or cash
Previous adopters often tell us the pre-arrival bonding process makes pickup day feel like welcoming home a family member they've been missing.

The Meximutt Project is 100% volunteer-run by a small team of dedicated animal lovers.
