Minneau's Story

Minneau, 12 year old spayed female, UTD on vaccines and HW- Since Minneau is already spayed she can go home with you today!

Minneau is currently in a foster home. Please contact the shelter at 530-527-3439 to arrange a meeting.

"Minneau is a phenomenal dog. She has the perfect combination of energy and laid-backness. If she is 12, she sure doesnt act her age. She has obviously been someones pet. She bonded to us immediately and made herself right at home. Shes excellent in the car. She is not a fan of the crate; she laid down but whined, so since she was so well-behaved, I let her out. She sleeps all night on a dog bed, occasionally sneaking onto the couch. She is totally housebroken, doesnt chew things up or dig, sits and lies down on command.
Minneau is indifferent to the fosters dog. She ignores the cats, sniffed noses with one but showed no interest in them. She is afraid of my goats and ignores the horses.
When you leave her outside, she will whine and scratch the door but responds to a firm No. You would need a well-fenced yard, not because she would try to run away, but because if you left her home, she would probably try to follow you. Likes to be where the people are. She stays with you on walks without a leash.
She may be a little hard of hearing. When you call her, she doesnt respond until you raise your voice.
If you take her home, be prepared for her to be devoted to you."

Boy do we have a story, a story that deserves a happy ending! Kim and her husband were visiting from Michigan and saved an abandoned dogs life This is Minneau and she is an approx 12 year old senior girl who certainly deserves a soft resting place for the rest of her life

I took Minneau out on volunteer day. She definitely loves loves her walks! She is a sweet girl who loved rolling in the grass and taking everything in. She is very sweet and well behaved. She is in good body condition but her eyes are a bit older doggo cloudy. It broke my heart to pieces because she wanted to jump in every car and whined for her people ughhhh.
She is a beautiful 50 lb catahoula mix. She is good with other dogs and all people!

Here are Kim's words (she emailed us)
Minneau at Tehama shelter
Michigan. On Tuesday 9/15/26, my husband and I were on our way to Lassen Volcanic National Park and found an abandoned dog on the side of Hwy 36E. It was around 8:30 am. We stopped and contacted the number on her tag and they told us we needed to take her to Tehama shelter because we were in their jurisdiction. (Her tag was Redding Long story short they weren't open until 11 so we got her a leash and harness and took her hiking with us. We spent nearly 8 hours with her and she was just the best girl!! Since we are from Michigan and were leaving the area the next day we really had no choice but to take her to the shelter. At drop off they checked her and she was chipped and they thought she had an owner. We left thinking and hoping that maybe she hadn't been abandoned and that they would find her owner. Well my heart is broken because today I called the shelter to check and learned that her owner is unhoused and cannot take her back.
