Miney's Story
Miney Update 12/5/11 She is still clinging to her crate some, but she does come out to play with the other dogs, and she does ask to be put on the bed every night. I think when she gets into her own home and does not have all these other dogs around, she will settle down and do much better. She is so happy, and so sweet UPDATE; This shy child is the last one to be venturing out of their cave. She is not ready to jump up on the bed yet, but she does come to me for a hug, and I have never seen a dog wiggle with so much joy as she does. She is so starved for affection. And, she grins from ear to ear. She is going to be a treasure This sweet girl does that 'smile' thing when she gets all wigglie and happy. We have 4 'special needs' dogs who are available for adoption, Eenie, Meenie, Miney, & Moe. 3 girls and a boy, from a puppy mill in Missouri. This one, Miney, is 3 years old I can not imagine how horrible their life must have been before they were rescued, but I have never seen dogs as fearful as these 4. For 2 weeks they all huddled in a tiny pile in the corner of my dining room. When they were not making any progress, I went to plan B. I have been taking them, 1 at a time, to cuddle in bed with the rest of us. Amazingly, once on the bed, they settle a little bit, and do not bolt the minute my grip relaxes. Once they have spent the night out of the corner of the dining room, they have graduated to the corner of the bedroom, and they do not pile up like they did before, but do still stick together. Sometimes they show progress and get all wiggly and want to come get a hug or a pat, but most of the time, they stay out of reach or revert to cowering in a corner, trembling with fear. They are showing enough progress and potential that I know they will eventually have a breakthrough and make great pets, but it is going to take months. The girls are all a bit growly with each other and some of the other girls in my group. In a house with fewer dogs, and in the hands of a person with terrier experience, I feel like this will resolve itself as they gain some confidence and feel more secure. Each dog has been spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (negative, unless stated otherwise), treated for parasites, and up to date on shots. While we are vigilant to get everyone as healthy as possible before we send them off to start their new lives, it is to be expected that, after the stress of traveling across the country from Kansas, (where our dogs are rehabilitated), and going to a new home, they will probably need to be retreated for parasites. We want to stress that your new friend needs to be seen by your veterinarian within the first week of arrival. We absolutely guarantee a happy placement, or you MUST return the dog and we will undo the contract. If you are not happy, the dog is not happy, and we are not happy. You may find some of our previously adopted dogs on our 'Happy Tails' page on this website.
