Milo's Story

5 months old | Neutered | Male

Milo is an exceptional puppy who will be the perfect lifelong companion for an experienced dog owner. Some call his mix a “designer breed” in the south, but what actually makes Milo exceptional is his temperament, personality, and intelligence.

Milo had a rough start and BB gun scars to show it, but you’d never know! He loves life, people, and especially cuddles. Even after a full night of holding bladder, he’d rather spend time getting pets and cuddles than being rushed outside for potty. Cuddles and affection are new to him and he’s a little awkward about how exactly he should stand/sit/lay to receive love, but he is so, so grateful and graceful - and is extremely welcoming of affection of all kinds.

Zero separation anxiety - fully crate trained, house/potty trained with zero accidents as long as he’s brought out on a semi consistent schedule, sleeps through the night in crate no problem, learning good leash behaviors, sits before entering or exiting doors/doorways, doing very well with taking food and treats gently.

First and foremost, Milo is still a puppy, and while a quick learner and eager to please, an adopter at this time would need to be committed to structure, routines, and continued training and teaching so he grows up to be a well rounded adult. It’s important to research his main breed - Black Mouth Cur. This is a strong, working breed, and while Milo has the best temperament of any puppy I have ever fostered, only experienced dog owners considered at this time who know how to give him a “job”, exercise his body, and also exercise his mind. That said, Milo is not a high energy dog and the BMC is beautifully balanced with chill AmStaff temperament, despite puppy energy now. He’s a medium energy dog who has learned how to chill out and turn off after his time outdoors or even a quick potty break. Genuinely a gem of a little guy - and he deserves a lifelong commitment from an owner who will treat him like family. He has loyalty and love to return in abundance for the right family.

He is currently living with 3 dogs and 6 cats, but his prey drive is strong. No cats in home right now unless kept separate. His interests alternates between play/interest and then chase/prey, so while he can continue to be trained, BMC’s are known for not being cat friendly. He would do fantastic with children old enough to not be knocked over during play, with other dog friendly dogs that can tolerate puppy energy and play, and humans of all kinds.

Milo’s biggest talent and favorite activity is using his nose! We scatter his food one handful at a time, and he goes about and sniffs until gobbled up and comes back for round two. This satisfies a lot of the job/mental stimulation for him, super simple at every meal, and he’s so fun and adorable throughout.

Milo is being fostered in Jacksonville, FL. All inquires should be prepared to show vet records for previous or current animals in home. Foster is willing to help with some on going training and future boarding if needed, as well.
