Millie's Story

Meet Millie… a 4-year-old, 14-pound Chihuahua mix who missed the memo about acting like an adult and is fully committed to her forever puppy era.

Millie loves her people with her whole entire being… and believes the best way to show that is by being as close as physically possible at all times. Sitting next to you? Not enough. She prefers on you, against you, or directly under your chin. Personal space is a concept she has chosen to ignore.

Despite being four, Millie still has plenty of playful puppy energy. She loves to play, bounce around, and break out into spontaneous zoomies like she just remembered she has legs. She plays well with other playful dogs.

She will walk on a leash, but she would really enjoy a home with a physically fenced yard where she can run, play, and get her zoomies out safely.

Millie came to us after being surrendered by a family who, unfortunately, was not able to properly care for her. When she first arrived, it was clear she had been kenneled too much and not let out often. She would drink all the water available to her and was having frequent accidents.

We quickly learned there was more going on. Millie has diabetes insipidus, which is very different from the more commonly known diabetes related to blood sugar. Her body doesn’t produce enough of the hormone ADH, which helps regulate water balance. The good news? It’s very manageable.

Millie takes Desmopressin, a synthetic hormone that replaces what her body is missing. Within just hours of starting it, she stopped drinking excessively and the accidents resolved. Her medication costs about $17 per month, and it makes a world of difference for her quality of life.

Now that she feels good, Millie is thriving. She is:
✔ House trained (with her medication)
✔ Playful and fun
✔ Incredibly affectionate
✔ A certified velcro dog

Millie is looking for a home that will embrace her closeness, enjoy her playful spirit, and keep her on her simple, affordable medication so she can continue feeling her best.

If you’re looking for a tiny shadow with a big personality, a dog who will keep you company every second of the day, and a built-in cuddle buddy who never says no… Millie is ready to claim her spot in your lap (and your life).

Fair warning: once she picks you, you’re hers.

Millie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
If you’d like to meet Millie, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org.

If you have questions about Millie you can email rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657.

Adopters must live within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Indoor homes only.
Adoption Fee: $300

Fur Fun Rescue's Adoption Policy
Our dogs are all in foster homes. We require a completed application prior to meeting one of our dogs. The adoption application is on our website: furfunrescue.org. Once the application is received, we check the veterinarian reference if you have or have had pets. Then we contact you to set up a time to meet the dog. If, after meeting the dog you want to proceed with an adoption, we will run a background check, call personal references, and do a home visit. We always introduce our dog to any current pets. The final step is completing the adoption contract.
