Millie's Story

Millie is a 6 year old, 8 lb Chihuahua rescued from an Amish puppy mill in July. This shy girl has had a difficult time adjusting to pet life in a home, but has come to appreciate the comforts. Millie still has quirks and will require time and patience as she settles in, but has made enough progress that she’s ready to leave foster and move into a forever home.

Millie likes to be around people, though she is still wary of hands, once she starts to accept pets she truly does love them, especially butt scratches. She loves fuzzy dog beds and being on the couch. She is good in her crate. Millie is fine with cats and dogs of all sizes. She is curious about people, but very nervous, though not mean or aggressive.
Millie does like being outside, but does not walk on leash and requires a securely fenced yard. She is not ready to go on walks or other adventures yet, she is happy to hang out at home.

Millie came to us with severely rotten teeth and unfit our vet had to remove all of them. She is so much happier since that surgery was done and she is no longer in pain. She happily eats soft food and treats and you’ll never have to worry about that bad Chihuahua dental health again.
When taken out on a schedule, she is good about pottying outside, but she will not tell you she needs to go out.

Her perfect home will understand that it will take time to become friends, that she likes being near without being overwhelmed with attention, that she requires extra time and patience and doesn’t do all the normal dog things right now, that she may always be nervous, but deserves a safe, loving home to live out her life. She does need to be picked up and carried outside and into her crate etc, so being able to catch her, bend to pick her up and carry her is also important. She is ready for a forever home. Puppy Mill Rescue Team 's Adoption Policy
ADOPTION POLICIES The Puppy Mill Rescue Team’s dogs are placed into adoptive homes within 60 miles of the foster home. We have foster homes in Rochester, NY, Buffalo, NY, and Macedonia, OH. When applying for a specific dog please check the profile to see where the dog is located. If you are not in this area and are looking to adopt, we recommend that you visit our Rescue Partners area or Petfinder.com to locate a rescue in your area. A legally binding Adoption Agreement must be signed at the time a dog is placed. The adoption donation varies and is included in the dog’s description on the website as well as in the Adoption Agreement. Adoption donations are not negotiable and payment must be made in full prior to or at the time of the placement of the dog. Please read prior to submission of an application for adoption. All potential homes must complete our adoption process which includes an application, meet and greet, home inspection and veterinary reference. Applicants must provide veterinary references if they have previously owned a pet and contact veterinary facilities to authorize release of their records to a PMRT representative upon request. Applicants who rent their homes must verify that they are permitted to have a dog and provide a landlord contact number on the adoption application. Landlords will be contacted in every case, no exception. The primary adopter must be at least 21 years old. We are solely committed to the dogs accepted into the rescue. We want to find them loving, permanent homes and go to great lengths to place the right dog into the right family. We reserve the right to decline any adoption based on what we feel is in the best interest of the dog.
