Mila's Story
Meet Mila – A Survivor with a Heart Full of Love ?

Mila’s journey hasn’t been easy, but her resilience and gentle spirit continue to inspire us every day. Rescued from the Lee County Shelter in Fort Myers, this precious girl has already come so far. Recently finished her heartworm treatment and went through that like a champ!

She was first found wandering onto someone’s property in Lehigh Acres, FL—emaciated, exhausted, and desperate for help. Her frail frame, visible ribs and hip bones, urine-stained coat, and numerous scars told the heartbreaking story of a dog who had been used for breeding and then thrown away when no longer useful. We estimate Mila is about 3 years old.

Thankfully, a kind-hearted stranger gave her food, water, and called animal control, hoping she’d get the care she so badly needed. The moment we learned of Mila’s situation, we knew we had to act. We coordinated with the shelter, and one of our amazing volunteers brought her to safety—first to a temporary home with one of our rescue directors, and eventually into foster care.

Despite her painful past, Mila is full of love and joy. She doesn’t dwell on what she’s been through—instead, she greets every day with a wagging tail and open heart. She adores going on walks, thrives with structure, and finds comfort in a consistent routine.

Mila continues to amaze us. She’s crate trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and is very treat-motivated and eager to please. She’s done well with other dogs, but after being adopted into a home with an older male Dogo, they had a conflict that couldn’t be resolved, and she was returned. Mila would do best in a home with a compatible dog that matches her energy and play style—or as the only dog where she can truly shine.

She hasn’t been tested around small children, so we recommend a home with older kids. She does show prey drive, so no cats for this girl.

Mila is now ready for a fresh start—one filled with love, adventure, and the stability she’s never had. She’s an extraordinary soul who’s been through so much, and all she wants is a place to finally call home.

? If you think you’re the one to give Mila the life she deserves, please fill out an adoption application today.

Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a dogo!
