Michelle's Story
Meet Michelle.
Before we get started, let's address the obvious.
Michelle doesn't have any pants.
We know. She knows. Everybody knows.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's talk about the incredible dog behind the bare backside.
Michelle is a 1-year-old Lab mix who first came to us as a puppy alongside her littermates. She was quickly scooped up by an amazing Adoption Ambassador family and spent months living happily alongside five other dogs.
Everything seemed perfect.
Then Michelle began experiencing recurring medical issues. She was treated multiple times for urinary tract infections and, through it all, remained the sweetest patient imaginable. One day, while all six dogs rushed toward the same window at the same time, a fight broke out. Much to everyone's surprise, Michelle came out on top.
Her foster family was shocked. The behavior was completely out of character for the dog they knew and loved. Faced with a difficult decision, they chose to return Michelle to the shelter.
When Michelle came back, we discovered she was once again battling a painful UTI. Her poor little girly bits were inflamed and raw from constant licking. We knew something bigger had to be going on.
That's when Dr. Powell found the culprit: Michelle had an inverted vulva, a condition that was likely causing chronic discomfort and repeated infections. Looking back, it's possible that months of pain played a role in the unusual behavior that led to her return.
Michelle underwent a vulvoplasty and has recovered beautifully. She feels better. She acts happier. She carries herself like a dog who finally got some relief.
Unfortunately, the one lasting consequence is that Michelle must be listed as needing a one-dog home. While we haven't seen any additional issues since her surgery, we want to set her future family up for success.
Well...
That, and she still doesn't have pants.
What Michelle does have is a second chance.
She has a goofy Lab smile, a heart full of love, and an opportunity to start over with a family of her very own. One that will see beyond her medical history, beyond her missing fur, and straight into the wonderful dog she's always been.
If you've been looking for a loyal companion who has overcome more than her fair share of obstacles, Michelle would love to meet you.
Pants are optional. Love is required.
