Mia's Story
Marvelous Miss Mia made her way to the shelter on 8/8/25 after being discovered abandoned in a local apartment. Although she was very sad at first, she has made friends with everyone and has come out of her shell. She has a very goofy & playful side once she decides you're safe and friendly! Believed to be an American Staffordshire Terrier mix, and weighing around 55 lbs., this sweet girl is looking for the love and devotion she had been lacking before. Mia previously lived with a small child and has been very friendly to adults & kids alike since her arrival. She seems to be house trained too. Mia can get along with some other dogs, but may be selective depending on the other dog's behavior.
Mia is a quiet, reserved adult, estimated to be about 4–5 years old. Once you’re on her level, her playful side shines through-she becomes bouncy, relaxed, and full of joy. If a well-mannered & "move in ready" adult dog sounds preferable to a wild puppy or a senior couch potato, Mia is the Goldilocks “just right” candidate to be your new bestie!
*Approved applicants are welcome to participate in our popular Slumber Party Program and take a dog home for up to 2 weeks to make sure he/she is a great fit.
If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application found on our website at www.caninerescue .org *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again when you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email us at adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.
We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopters must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.
*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide. If they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone, so advise your references that there may be an unknown or private number calling them. Thank you!

NYS Registration #RR028
