Mia's Story
Meet Mia

Mia is a 6-year-old spayed Terrier mix with a sweet heart, a playful personality, and a big love for routine. She has been waiting far too long for her person, and we know the right home is out there — one that will give her the structure, patience, and understanding she needs to shine.

Mia can be mouthy when she is nervous, excited, or trying to play. That means she may use her mouth during interaction when she is overstimulated or unsure. The important part is that this behavior has improved tremendously. Once Mia feels comfortable, knows the routine, and understands what is expected of her, her mouthiness becomes non-existent. Her foster sees the good dog she truly is every day.

Mia is a total foodie. She loves treats and especially enjoys dog-safe fruits and vegetables like carrots, celery, broccoli, strawberries, pineapple, watermelon, and blueberries in appropriate portions. Treats are a great way to build trust, reinforce routine, and help Mia feel confident.

Her housetraining is strong once she knows the schedule and her people understand her signals. Mia may sit by the door or whine when she needs to go outside. If those cues are missed while she is still settling into a new home, she may have an accident near the door. A house with a consistent routine and quick outdoor access would be best.

Mia’s crate is her safe place. It gives her somewhere to rest, decompress, and feel secure. She does best when she has a predictable routine and people who respect her need for quiet downtime.

Mia also has some boundaries that should be respected. She may not like being picked up by people she does not know, especially men. If she feels scared, trapped, or cornered, picking her up may cause her to panic and bite accidentally. Mia needs calm handling, patience, and people who can read dog body language.

Mia is friendly overall, but she can become defensive if a much larger unfamiliar dog rushes up to her with too much energy, even if that dog is only trying to say hello. In those moments, she may growl or lunge to create space. For her comfort and safety, Mia should avoid dog parks, surprise dog greetings, and close encounters with unknown high-energy dogs.

Mia also needs respectful food boundaries. She can be food protective and may growl if someone tries to take food from her or if another pet gets too close to her meals, treats, or chews. This is manageable with simple structure: feed her separately and give her space while eating.

Mia is not the dog for every home, but she is absolutely the right dog for someone patient, experienced, and willing to give her a real chance. Once she feels safe and settled, Mia is sweet, playful, loyal, and so worth it.

Mia at a glance:
* 6 years old
* Spayed female Terrier mix
* Sweet, playful, and food-motivated
* Mouthiness becomes non-existent once she is settled and comfortable
* Crate is her safe place
* Housetraining is strong with routine and recognized signals
* Not ideal for small children
* Needs respectful food boundaries
* May not like being picked up by unfamiliar people, especially men
* Can be defensive if a large, high-energy dog rushes up to her
* No dog parks or surprise dog greetings
* Best with patient, dog-experienced adopters

Fill out an application or message us to set up a meet-and-sniff!
