Merritt's Story

Merritt is an 18-month-old Labrador/Great Pyrenees mix who is drop-dead gorgeous and knows how to behave around company. He is absolutely lovely with people of all ages, has solid manners and would be delighted to join a family with children. He has enough affection for an entire household. He simply sees no reason to allocate any of it to another dog.

In a dog world full of Veronicas, Merritt is a Heather. We cannot reliably predict which dogs will meet his standards, and frankly, nobody needs to spend their life administering that admissions process. He will be placed as an only dog. Cats and poultry fall under potential snacks, so those are also firmly off the guest list.

With people, Merritt is a delight. He loves hanging out with his family, settling into a nice soft dog bed and sitting on the deck in the morning with his nose in the air, listening to the birds. He appreciates birds as an atmospheric feature. Their coming down to ground level would change the nature of the relationship. His dislikes include fireworks, another dog in the house and Coldplay. He would appreciate your respecting all three, although we only screen adopters for the first two.

Merritt needs a fenced yard, and a home with kids would suit him beautifully. His ideal life involves people to adore, somewhere comfortable to stretch out and mornings spent enjoying the air before anyone starts asking things of him. If you want one exceptionally handsome dog with lovely manners and a wholehearted enthusiasm for your family, Merritt would like to submit his application. He has left the “works well with others” section blank, but his references from humans are outstanding.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please apply online, at https://bigfluffydogs.com/dog-adoption/ and then email summer@bigfluffydogs.com. Our main website, www.bigfluffydogs.com has more information about us and the rescue process. Merritt is in Nashville but can travel. BFDR has established transport networks and foster homes across most of the eastern United States, so this dog can be safely and comfortably transported to approved adopters in your area.

NOTE TO EMAILERS FROM PETFINDER: UNLESS YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, WE DO NOT KNOW YOU OFFICIALLY EXIST. Please be sure to do the application in addition to emailing the coordinator as the application will get a response.

All known information about an individual dog is provided in its listing. We do our best to provide accurate information, but adopters should understand that each home is different and the dog may behave differently in a new home. Dogs are creatures of their environment and you help make the dog what it will be.
