Because of that, he missed out on many of the everyday experiences and socialization that puppies need to build confidence.<br/><br/>Right now, Merrit is shy and cautious around new people and unfamiliar situations. He is not aggressive and has never shown any signs of biting—he's simply unsure of the world around him. With patience, kindness, gentle handling, and positive experiences, we hope he will continue to gain confidence. While we can't promise how much he'll come out of his shell, we do know he deserves the opportunity.<br/><br/>Merrit is looking for a family that understands he won't be the type of dog who immediately runs into your arms. Instead, you'll need to let him set the pace, earn his trust, and celebrate the small victories along the way. The bond you'll build through patience, consistency, and love will be well worth the effort.<br/><br/>Because of his timid nature, we believe Merrit would do best in a home with children 12 years of age or older who can respect his need for time and space as he adjusts.<br/><br/>We'll be happy to talk in detail with anyone interested in adopting Merrit to help ensure he's the right fit for your home.
