I'm Melon <br/><br/>I'm about 1.5 years old and 50 lbs of soft, quiet love... once you get to know me.<br/><br/>I'll be honest with you — I'm not the dog who's going to run up to strangers with tail wags and kisses right away. The world can feel really scary to me sometimes, especially new people and especially men. I didn't grow up knowing that humans could be kind. I grew up on the streets of Detroit with my mom and my dog family, and we had to rely on each other to survive.<br/><br/>But other animals? I love them. Dogs, cats, kids — they make me feel safe and happy. I understand them. They're my comfort zone.<br/><br/>People... I'm still learning.<br/><br/>I've been in rescue for a whole year now, just waiting. Watching other dogs get picked while I stay behind. I think it's because I'm shy. Because I don't show my heart right away. But I promise... it's in there. And it's really, really special.<br/><br/>If you're the kind of person who sees the “underdog”... the one who needs a little extra patience, a little extra love... I think you might understand me. And if you give me that chance? I will absolutely melt into you. I love to cuddle once I feel safe. It's my favorite thing in the whole world.<br/><br/>I'm crate trained and mostly potty trained too — sometimes outside noises still scare me and I forget what I'm doing out there, but I'm trying my best every day.<br/><br/>I don't need a perfect home. I just need a patient one. A calm one.
