!!! Located at ACCT Philly, 111 W Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia PA !!!Mellow A43990918Intake Type: (3/10) Stray -- Public Drop Off Mellow is my name and I'm ready to find my forever family. When I first got to the shelter I was very scared and nervous. But the more time I spent with my volunteer friends, the more I've opened up. I enjoy playing with tennis balls and I like to play with other dog friends!I really don't like being in my kennel though. I give my volunteer friends a really hard time when they are putting me back. Sometime it takes two of them.I know I'm a great dog and once you meet me you'll see that. Please consider bring me home, I promise I'll be your best friend for life!Dog Meets:Mellow and Artica: https://youtu.be/upJJZ2qezY4Mellow and Artica 2: https://youtu.be/ZNWQqeEJEsoMellow and Artica 3: https://youtu.be/3qKEcPQgfE8Mellow and Spike: https://photos.app.goo.gl/zqLqmdWFqaBNxHLr9Mellow and Rowan: https://youtu.be/0koPsiAK3GsMellow, Koala, Candy Cane and Lexx: https://youtu.be/qPUDVRfa0TIMellow and Lexx: https://youtu.be/7suUdIYsgUMKoala, Millennium Falcon and Mellow: https://youtu.be/mmbo0AC6waYMellow and Millennium Falcon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW8bP38dVsUPhotos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/185100251@N08/shares/T62Hddhttps://flic.kr/s/aHsmMdKKFkhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/185100251@N08/shares/6c6RWjVideos:Mellow Outside -- https://photos.app.goo.gl/Qq4gEKimVqT2GhMk7Mellow loves his Best Volunteer Friend! -- https://youtu.be/vXaO0C9EM5oMellow laying -- https://youtu.be/dGC4Yzi_oFQEnjoying the Grass -- https://youtu.be/9-tliHtGUzMMedical Observation:(3/16) This dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been moved into isolation area and are started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection, they must be healthy before being moved out of ISO and will need a veterinarian to examine them before they receive surgery, if they are not already altered.Behavior Observation:(4/7) Volunteer Observations -- Dog presented at the front of kennel and was easily leashed. Mellow was eager to leave the kennel and transitioned well through aisle/building. Dog pulls moderately on the leash and would benefit from a harness. Otherwise walks nicely on the leash. He has become more interested in socializing since last week, and solicits pets nicely. He accepts all over pets, enjoys being petted, and his body was loose while being handled. Mellow loves to play fetch. Handler used trade method, although Mellow did drop balls upon returning. Dog takes treats gently and knows "sit" command. Upon leaving play run, dog walked calmly back to kennel with handler. One volunteer positioned herself at the opposite side of kennel to encourage dog to move from front to back of kennel. Mellow entered kennel with no issue and immediately went to back of kennel to accept a treat. No issue with redirection.(3/24) Volunteer Eval -- Easy to leash used large loop and nylon leash as well based on previous history. Pulls on leash especially when he sees other dogs. Tense in run but did come up to take treats. Did not attempt further handling attempt gentle hind pets and small touches and had quick head turns. Did not attempt tag or toys. dog is TTA. Saw baby fire through fence and seems interested. Loose with tail wags. Pawed and cried through fence. Pulls towards dogs when walking. Evaled Blue/ (3/24) Per Lifesaving -- good when removing from kennel. Pulls on leash but walks well. Social outside and solicits attention from handler. Once back in the kennels dog stopped and did not want to walk back towards his kennel. With time, patience and treats got dog to walk back to his kennel. Handler put an orange nylon lead on the dog outside of his kennel and removed the slip lead. Put dog back in kennel with nylon lead, left the lead on and closed the kennel. Dog turned around and lunged while growling as kennel door was shutting. Otherwise he was kind, sweet and social - just doesn't like going back in his kennel. (3/10) Per Finder -- friendly, docile, protective already, chases cats - does not like cats!Per Foster Home:Here are some additional notes on my 4 days with Mellow. He seems to have some fear and past trauma around exiting the home. He is timid to go into the backyard and will only go out if I lead the way. He doesn't want to stay out long, returns to the door when he's ready. If he thinks I'm going inside without him he runs to the door. He is very enthusiastic about wanting to go for a walk, he sits in front of me and whines/barks when he wants to go out (even after he's just had a potty break in the backyard), he also jumps up at the front door. The doorbell is very alarming to him, he jumps up at the door, runs around, barks and whines. If he sees me going towards the front door he runs to the door. He follows the command "sit" but will not "stay". The second my hand touches the door handle he jumps up and charges towards the door. I tried to only open the door wide enough for me to slip through several times over the 3 days and he charged against the apartment door and pushed it open to escape into the common hallway. At that point he is extremely energized and wants to go outside, he does not listen verbal commands and growled/snapped when I tried to physically direct him with a gentle pull of his collar. I was only able to get him back inside by walking back inside myself until I was out of his line of sight, he would then follow. When he charged his way into the common hallway last night, I first tried verbal commands to get him back inside, when that didn't work I tried to put his harness and leash on, he growled, snapped and bit my leg. After I yelled "no" at him several times he stopped, froze and then followed my command to go into the apartment. He's broke the skin on my leg and it feels bruised. The remainder of the night he was calm and laid down by himself (not normal behavior - usually craves attention) and he only got up a few hours later to observe me cleaning up the kitchen and to follow me to the bedroom. On walks he pulls the entire time; he walks very fast with his nose down near the ground and zig zags from side to side on the sidewalk. He is mostly interested in sniffing all trees, grass, bushes. Other dogs catch his attention from 15-20' feet away and he pulls to greet them, but I have held him back and can redirect him within about 15 seconds. He pays n
